Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak penyelenggaraan FIFA World Cup 2022 terhadap sektor pariwisata di Qatar, khususnya dalam hal pengelolaan aksesibilitas, atraksi, dan amenitas (3A), kebijakan pariwisata sebelum dan sesudah event, serta keberlanjutan pariwisata pasca-event. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus, data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan enam informan yang memiliki latar belakang berbeda, seperti pekerja migran, warga lokal, wisatawan, dan perwakilan diplomatik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa FIFA World Cup 2022 memberikan dampak positif dalam penguatan infrastruktur transportasi, peningkatan kualitas atraksi wisata, dan pengembangan fasilitas penunjang (amenitas) yang berstandar internasional. Selain itu, terjadi pergeseran kebijakan pariwisata dari yang semula terpusat pada pembangunan fisik menuju pendekatan yang lebih inklusif dan berkelanjutan. Keberlanjutan sektor pariwisata tercermin dari pemanfaatan warisan infrastruktur, pelibatan komunitas lokal, dan promosi citra destinasi yang lebih terbuka dan progresif. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa event olahraga berskala besar dapat menjadi instrumen strategis dalam transformasi sektor pariwisata di negara berkembang. This study aims to analyze the impact of the FIFA World Cup 2022 on the tourism sector in Qatar, particularly in terms of the management of accessibility, attractions, and amenities (3A), tourism policies before and after the event, and the sustainability of tourism post-event. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six informants from diverse backgrounds, including migrant workers, local residents, tourists, and diplomatic representatives. The findings show that the FIFA World Cup 2022 had a positive impact on strengthening transportation infrastructure, improving the quality of tourist attractions, and developing internationally standardized supporting facilities (amenities). Moreover, there was a shift in tourism policy from a focus on physical development to a more inclusive and sustainable approach. The sustainability of the tourism sector is reflected in the adaptive reuse of infrastructure legacy, involvement of local communities, and promotion of a more open and progressive destination image. This study confirms that mega sporting events can serve as strategic instruments for transforming the tourism sector in developing countries.
