    Abstract

Community Based Tourism (CBT) is a tourism approach emphasizing active community participation in tourism destination management. This study evaluates CBT principles implementation in Hanjeli Tourism Village management in Waluran District, Sukabumi Regency using ten basic CBT principles according to Suansri (2003). The qualitative research method employed observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The evaluation used achievement analysis based on criteria with four achievement categories: excellent, good, adequate, and needs improvement. Research results showed four principles achieved excellent category: community pride, cultural preservation and local identity, cultural exchange, and respect for human dignity. Two principles achieved good category: community ownership and quality of life improvement. One principle was adequate: environmental sustainability. Three principles require significant improvement: participation in decision-making, equitable benefit distribution, and community role in determining income percentage. The study concludes that strengthening more participatory and inclusive management systems is necessary for optimizing CBT implementation. This research provides valuable insights for sustainable tourism development in rural communities and offers practical recommendations for enhancing community-based tourism effectiveness.
