Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis model mental siswa kelas XI pada materi pemanasan global. Terdapat tiga topik yang diujikan pada penelitian ini yaitu efek rumah kaca, El Nino, dan La Nina. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Global Warming Mental Model Instrumen (GOWAMMI) yang terdiri dari tiga aspek, yaitu Explanation, Content, dan Drawing, serta metode Drawing based Thematic Analysis (DbTA) untuk menganalisis representasi visual siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan mixed methods dengan desain Triangulation. Partisipan terdiri atas 111 siswa SMA di Kota Bandung. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui tes uraian GOWAMMI dan menghasilkan tiga kategori model mental Scientific, Synthetic, Initial. Sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh melalui DbTA dengan menganalisis jawaban gambar siswa. Integrasi data kuantitatif dan kualitatif menggunakan GOWAMMI dan DbTA menghasilkan sepuluh kategori model mental baru, yaitu Scientific Comprehensive (Sci-Com), Scientific Partial (Sci-Par), Synthetic Comprehensive (Sy-Com), Synthetic Partial (Sy-Par), Synthetic Alternative Conception (Sy-AC), Synthetic Symbolic (Sy-Sym), Synthetic No Representation (Sy-NoR), Initial Alternative Conception (In-AC), Initial Symbolic (In-Sym), dan Initial No Representation (In-NoR). Pada topik Efek Rumah Kaca, kategori yang paling dominan adalah Sy-Par. Pada topik El Nino kategori yang dominan adalah Sy-AC dan In-AC. Pada topik La Nina kategori yang paling dominan adalah Sy-Sym. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan kategori model mental baru yang dapat digunakan sebagai acuan untuk mengidentifikasi profil pemahaman siswa secara komprehensif. This study aims to analyze the mental models of 11th-grade students regarding global warming. Three topics were assessed: the greenhouse effect, El Niño, and La Niña. The instrument used was the Global Warming Mental Model Instrument (GOWAMMI), which consists of three aspects—explanation, content, and drawing—along with the Drawing-Based Thematic Analysis (DbTA) method to analyze students’ visual representations. The research employed a mixed methods approach with a triangulation design. Participants consisted of 111 senior high school students in Bandung. Quantitative data were obtained from the GOWAMMI essay test, which identified three primary mental model categories: Scientific, Synthetic, and Initial. Qualitative data were obtained from DbTA by analyzing students’ drawings. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data from GOWAMMI and DbTA resulted in ten new mental model categories: Scientific Comprehensive (Sci-Com), Scientific Partial (Sci-Par), Synthetic Comprehensive (Sy-Com), Synthetic Partial (Sy-Par), Synthetic Alternative Conception (Sy-AC), Synthetic Symbolic (Sy-Sym), Synthetic No Representation (Sy-NoR), Initial Alternative Conception (In-AC), Initial Symbolic (In-Sym), and Initial No Representation (In-NoR). For the greenhouse effect topic, the most dominant category was Sy-Par. For the El Niño topic, the dominant categories were Sy-AC and In-AC. For the La Niña topic, the most dominant category was Sy-Sym. This study produced new mental model categories that can serve as a reference for comprehensively identifying students’ understanding profiles.
