    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pemanfaatan kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence) dalam proses audio mastering melalui pendekatan studi kasus terhadap seorang audio engineer profesional di Kota Bandung yang menggunakan plugin iZotope Ozone sebagai alat bantu berbasis AI. Adapun penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi meningkatnya fenomena penggunaan teknologi AI khususnya dalam industri musik, khususnya pada tahap mastering yang sebelumnya sepenuhnya dilakukan secara manual oleh audio engineer berpengalaman. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini mencakup bagaimana workflow audio mastering berbasis AI, bagaimana kualitas hasil produksinya, serta bagaimana perspektif seorang audio engineer terhadap penggunaan AI dalam tahap audio mastering. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara semi-terstruktur, observasi, dan analisis dokumen hasil mastering. Proses analisis data dilakukan melalui proses reduksi, kategorisasi, dan interpretasi berdasarkan pendekatan tematik sesuai rumusan masalah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa AI memberikan efisiensi dalam proses mastering melalui saran teknis seperti frequency cut, dynamics, dan penggunaan maximizer. Namun, penggunaan AI masih terbatas dalam hal fleksibilitas dan ekspresi artistik. Narasumber menyatakan bahwa preset AI bersifat generik dan tetap memerlukan penyesuaian secara manual untuk menyesuaikan karakteristik lagu dan genre. AI dinilai lebih berfungsi sebagai alat bantu atau referensi awal, bukan sebagai solusi final dalam produksi audio profesional. Dengan demikian, AI dalam audio mastering lebih tepat diposisikan sebagai alat pendukung dalam praktik profesional, bukan sebagai pengganti peran manusia. Adapun rekomendasi dari penelitian ini adalah agar penggunaan AI didahului oleh pemahaman terhadap prinsip dasar audio mastering dan estetika musik untuk memastikan hasil akhir yang optimal. Kata kunci: iZotope Ozone, audio engineer, Artificial Intelligence, Audio Mastering This study aims to examine the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the audio mastering process through a case study of a professional audio engineer based in Bandung, Indonesia, who uses the AI-based plugin iZotope Ozone as a mastering tool. The background of this research is based on the growing trend of AI integration especially in the music industry, particularly in the mastering stage, which has traditionally been carried out manually by experienced audio engineers. The research addresses three main questions on how AI influences the mastering workflow, what kind of results it produces, and how an audio engineer’s perspective is on the use of AI in the audio mastering stage. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and document analysis of mastered audio results. Data analysis was conducted using thematic approaches involving reduction, categorization, and interpretation based on the research questions. The findings reveal that AI contributes to workflow efficiency in the mastering process by offering technical suggestions such as frequency cut and boost, dynamics, and the use of maximizer. However, its usage remains limited in terms of flexibility and artistic expression. The participant stated that AI-generated presets are generally generic and require manual adjustments to suit specific musical genres and track characteristics. AI is perceived more as a tool for initial suggestion rather than a definitive solution for professional audio production. Therefore, AI in mastering is best positioned as a supporting tool in professional practice, rather than a replacement for human expertise. The study suggests that effective use of AI should be preceded by a thorough understanding of fundamental audio mastering principles and music aesthetics to ensure optimal output.
