    Abstract

Analysis of Mathematical Representation Ability of Tenth-Grade Students in Solving Problems Based on Habits of Mind. Mathematical representation ability is the ability to present and express mathematical ideas in various forms such as images, symbols, equations, graphs, tables and other forms. The focus of this research is to describe the mathematical representation ability of tenth-grade students in solving problems on linear inequality system material viewed from their habits of mind. This research used a qualitative approach. The subjects of the study consisted of 24 tenth-grade students in one of the high schools in Bandung. Data collection was done through habits of mind questionnaire to categorize them into high, medium and low categories. Furthermore, students were given a mathematical representation ability test in the form of a problem-solving questions of Linear Inequality System material and continued with interviews with selected subjects from each group. The results showed that students' mathematical representation skills were in the moderate category, with the strongest indicator in symbolic representation and the weakest in visual representation. Students' habits of mind are also moderate, with the strongest indicators in persistence, impulsivity management, and metacognition, while empathy, data collection, and interdisciplinary thinking are still the main obstacles in learning mathematics. Mathematical representation difficulties vary, high ability students do not experience significant representation difficulties, medium category students have difficulty understanding symbols and relating images to inequality concepts, while low category students face difficulties in representing data interpretation and relating images to inequality concepts. In addition, students with high habits of mind are able to master verbal, symbolic, and visual representations well, students with moderate habits of mind are only able to master verbal and symbolic representations, while students with low habits of mind are only capable of symbolic indicators. As an improvement effort, the proposed alternative solutions include the application of conceptual visual-based learning with GeoGebra media and gradual practice using the concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) approach, so that the relationship between internal and external representations can be formed systematically.
