    Abstract

Migrant students face academic, social, and emotional challenges in a new environment far from their families, which demands a high level of resilience. Resilience is the ability to adapt and persevere through various life challenges and difficulties, as well as the capacity to recover from adversity. This study focuses on ethnicity as a factor that may influence the resilience level of migrant students. The purpose of this research is to describe the overall and aspect-specific levels of resilience among migrant students and to compare resilience based on ethnic background. This research employed a quantitative approach with a comparative method. The instrument used was developed based on the seven aspects of resilience proposed by Reivich and Shatté, consisting of 79 statement items that have been tested for validity and reliability. The respondents were 180 migrant students of the Faculty of Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FIP UPI), from the 2018–2024 cohorts of the 2024/2025 academic year, representing Batak, Betawi, Javanese, Malay, Minang, Sundanese-Banten, and other ethnic groups. The findings indicate that the resilience level of migrant students at FIP UPI falls within the moderate category, with an average score of 305.96. In terms of ethnic background, all ethnic groups were also within the moderate category, with Malay and Minang students showing the highest average scores, while Betawi students recorded the lowest. An analysis of the seven aspects of resilience revealed that most ethnic groups were in the moderate category, with notable variations in optimism and self-efficacy. However, the comparative test results indicated no significant differences in resilience across ethnic groups (Asymp. Sig. = 0.116), meaning that ethnic background does not significantly influence the resilience level of migrant students. This study has important implications for academic advisors and university counseling services in developing more personalized, adaptive, and comprehensive strategies to enhance the resilience of migrant students.
