Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji bahasa evaluatif yang terealisasi pada tuturan pemeriksa dan terperiksa dalam penyidikan kepolisian di Polres Langkat, Sumatera Utara. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tuturan terhadap kecenderungan munculnya tuturan appraisal dalam tuturan pemeriksa dan terperiksa pada penyidikan kepolisian; untuk mengevaluasi pola appraisal yang terealisasi dalam tuturan pemeriksa dan terperiksa pada penyidikan; untuk mengevaluasi dampak appraisal yang direalisasikan oleh pemeriksa terhadap respoons terperiksa dalam berkomunikasi dalam penyidikan kepolisian; untuk mengevaluasi bagaimanakah power relation direalisasikan dalam konteks penyidikan kepolisian. Untuk menjawab semua tujuan penelitian ini, penelitian ini menggunakan teori Linguistik Sistemik Fungsional (LSF) yang dikemukakan oleh Halliday dan kolega, khusunya penelitian ini menggunakan teori Appraisal Martin, White dan Rose (2003, 2005, 2007). Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif yang merupakan data yang diperoleh berupa data asli atau natural yang terjadi secara alami di lapangan tanpa interversi dan manipulasi. Setelah pengumpulan data, tahapan yang pertama dilakukan adalah data dianalisis melalui pengkodean data teori appraisal Martin, White dan Rose (2003, 2005, 2007). Tahapan yang kedua adalah menghitung realisasi tuturan yang muncul pada attitude, engagement dan graduation. Tahapan yang terakhir adalah pendeskripsian data berdasarkan teori Martin, White dan Rose (2003, 2005, 2007). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan (1) Dari jumlah realisasi attitude, engagement dan graduation didominasi oleh engagement dan didominasi oleh pemeriksa, ini mengartikan bahwa selama interogasi berlangsung pemeriksa dominan menunjukkan posisi kepada lawan bicaranya (terperiksa); (2) hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada 23 pola strategi interpersonal yang direalisaikan dalam penelitian ini dan didominasi dengan pola heterogloss: contract: affect, pola ini mengartikan bahwa selama interogasi partispan cenderung memberi peluang bagi suara lain dan menggunakan cara perasaan (ways of feeling) dalam berinteraksi; (3) respons negatif terperiksa lebih dominan daripada pemeriksa dan sebaliknya respons positif pemeriksa lebih dominan daripada terperiksa hal ini disebabkan selama interogasi terperiksa sering mengekspresikan sikap sedih, tidak tenang, cemas, panik dan sebagainya karena dalam konteks ini posisi terperiksa sebagai yang bersalah; (4) power yang direalisasikan dalam penelitian ini sebagai alat untuk pengakuan bagi terperiksa dan pemeriksa dominan menggunakan power selama interogasi berlangsung. This study examines evaluative language realized in the speech of investigators and interviewees during police interrogations at Polres Langkat, Sumatera Utara. The aim of this research is to analyze the tendency of appraisal occurrences in the speech of both investigators and interviewees during police interrogations; to evaluate the appraisal patterns realized in their utterances; to assess the impact of the investigators’ realized appraisal on the interviewees’ responses in the course of police interrogation; and to evaluate how power relations are realized in the context of police interrogation. To address these research objectives, this study employs the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) as proposed by Halliday and colleagues, with a particular focus on the Appraisal theory developed by Martin, White, and Rose (2003, 2005, 2007). The methodology adopted is qualitative descriptive, wherein the data collected are natural and authentic, occurring in real-life settings without intervention or manipulation. Following data collection, the first stage involved analyzing the data through coding based on the Appraisal theory of Martin, White, and Rose (2003, 2005, 2007). The second stage consisted of quantifying the realization of utterances in terms of Attitude, Engagement, and Graduation. The final stage entailed a detailed description of the data within the framework of Martin, White, and Rose’s theory. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) Among the realizations of Attitude, Engagement, and Graduation, Engagement is the most dominant category, primarily produced by the investigators, suggesting that during interrogation, investigators predominantly assert their stance toward the interviewees; (2) Twenty-three interpersonal strategy patterns were identified, with the most frequent being the heterogloss: contract: affect pattern, indicating that during interrogation, participants tended to allow space for alternative voices while employing ways of feeling in their interaction; (3) Negative responses were more prevalent among interviewees than investigators, whereas positive responses were more frequent among investigators than interviewees. This pattern is attributed to the fact that interviewees often expressed feelings of sadness, unease, anxiety, panic, and similar emotions, as they were positioned as culpable in the interrogation context; (4) Power in this study was realized as a tool for eliciting confessions from interviewees, with investigators predominantly exercising power throughout the interrogation process.
