    Abstract

    Kemampuan membaca permulaan adalah kemampuan yang sangat penting untuk dimiliki oleh siswa. Rendahnya kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa sekolah dasar menjadi latar belakang dari penelitian ini. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk: 1) mengetahui serta menganalisis pengaruh penerapan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan media big book terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa; 2) mengetahui serta membandingkan peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa yang pembelajaran menggunakan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan media big book dengan siswa yang belajar menggunakan model kooperatif. Metode yang peneliti gunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent, pre-test, post-test control grup desain dengan subjek sejumlah 44 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk memperoleh data sebelum dan sesudah pembelajaran adalah instrumen teks kemampuan membaca permulaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model Problem Based Learning berbantuan media big book memberikan pengaruh sebesar 41% terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa dengan nilai signifikansi 0,001 < 0,005. Sehingga penelitian yang dilakukan diperoleh kesimpulan: 1) terdapat pengaruh pembelajaran menggunakan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan media big book terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa. 2) terdapat peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran dengan model Problem Based Learning berbantuan media big book lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan model kooperatif. ----- Early reading ability is a very important ability for students to have. The low early reading ability of elementary school students is the background of this study. The purpose of this study is to: 1) determine and analyze the effect of the application of the Problem Based Learning model assisted by big book media on improving students' early reading ability; 2) determine and compare the improvement in students' early reading ability who learn using the Problem Based Learning model assisted by big book media with students who learn using the cooperative model. The method used by the researcher is a quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent design, pre-test, post-test control group design with 44 students as subjects. The instrument used to obtain data before and after learning is the initial reading ability text instrument. The results of the study show that the Problem Based Learning model assisted by big book media has an effect of 41% on improving students' early reading ability with a significance value of 0.001 <0.005. So that the research conducted obtained the following conclusions: 1)there is an effect of learning using the Problem Based Learning model assisted by big book media on students' early reading ability. 2) There was a greater improvement in the beginning reading skills of students who received the Problem Based Learning model with the aid of big books than those who received the cooperative model.
