Abstract
This study aims to describe the pre-reading, reading, and post-reading stages of reading literacy learning in the Indonesian language subject in fifth grade at elementary schools. The researcher applied a qualitative approach using the ethnographic method. This study was conducted in schools that were categorized as good in terms of their AKM reading literacy scores. The research subjects consisted of students, teachers, and the school principal. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and document analysis. Data were analyzed through reduction, presented thematically, and concluded. The research results indicate that (1) during the pre-reading stage, teachers tend to choose texts from textbooks, analyze reading texts through titles and images to predict the content of the reading, provide guiding questions related to the lesson introduction that refer to the material but are not related to the reading text, and the supporting facilities of the school library are not functioning properly and the management of the reading corner is still limited; (2) during the reading phase, teachers do not apply specific reading strategies or types, always provide space for questions to optimize student engagement, the assignments given are sufficiently diverse, but there are no extracurricular activities focused on reading literacy, the school has only recently collaborated with book publishers for the procurement of textbooks, and the school is already well-stocked with texts; and (3) In the post-reading stage, teachers have conducted reflection activities but not consistently, the school principal appreciates the achievements of students and teachers who provide guidance, and teachers frequently participate in reading literacy development training. Overall, the implementation of reading literacy learning procedures in the Indonesian language subject in grade V at SDN X is not yet fully optimal. Recommendations for teachers include further developing teaching materials, adapting appropriate reading strategies, and being more consistent in conducting learning reflections.
