Abstract

Salah satu fenomena dalam dinamika bahasa lokal di Indonesia adalah Bahasa Sandi Widal yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Kelurahan Tipar, Sukabumi. Bahasa ini tidak umum dan jarang ditemukan di luar wilayah Kelurahan Tipar. Bahasa Sandi Widal juga memiliki ikatan historis dengan sejarah kolonialisme di Kota Sukabumi yang menimbulkan kebutuhan akan adanya bahasa rahasia. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengkaji mengenai eksistensi Bahasa Sandi Widal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi dan studi literatur. Informan yang dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari informan kunci yaitu masyarakat Kelurahan Tipar dan informan pendukung yaitu sekretaris lurah Tipar, budayawan Kota Sukabumi serta Kepala Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Kota Sukabumi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Bahasa Sandi Widal masih eksis di masyarakat Kelurahan Tipar, meskipun penggunaannya mulai terbatas pada ruang-ruang sosial tertentu. (2) Bahasa Sandi Widal memiliki fungsi sosial, yaitu fungsi informatif, interaksional dan identitas sosial. Simbol Bahasa Sandi Widal berbentuk perubahan huruf vokal dan konsonan yang memiliki aturan khusus. Makna dalam Bahasa Sandi Widal yakni isyarat sosial, alat refleksi diri, alat pembentuk pengaruh sosial dan kebersamaan serta solidaritas sosial. (3) Proses sosialisasi Bahasa Sandi Widal berlangsung secara in-formal di lingkungan keluarga dan lingkungan masyarakat. Faktor penghambat sosialisasi Bahasa Sandi Widal yaitu arus modernisasi, menurunnya minat generasi muda, terbatasnya dukungan lembaga formal dan donimasi bahasa mayoritas. Adapun faktor pendorongnya berupa kebanggaan terhadap identitas lokal, tradisi turun-temurun dalam keluarga dan upaya Dinas Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Kota Sukabumi mengusulkan Bahasa Sandi Widal sebagai Warisan Budaya Tak Benda (WBTB). Kata Kunci: Bahasa Sandi Widal, Eksistensi, Kelurahan Tipar One of the phenomena in the dynamics of local languages in Indonesia is the Sandi Widal Language used by the Tipar Village community, Sukabumi. This language is not common and is rarely found outside the Tipar Village area. The Sandi Widal Language also has historical ties to the history of colonialism in Sukabumi City which gave rise to the need for a secret language. The purpose of this study is to examine the existence of the Sandi Widal Language. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, documentation studies and literature studies. The informants involved in this study consisted of key informants, namely the Tipar Village community and supporting informants, namely the Tipar Village secretary, Sukabumi City cultural figures and the Head of the Sukabumi City Education and Culture Office. The results of the study show that (1) The Sandi Widal Language still exists in the Tipar Village community, although its use is starting to be limited to certain social spaces. (2) The Sandi Widal Language has a social function, namely informative, interactional and social identity functions. The symbols of the Widal Password Language are in the form of changes in vowels and consonants which have special rules. The meaning of the Sandi Widal Language is a social signal, a self-reflection tool, a tool for forming social influence and togetherness and social solidarity. (3) The process of socialization of the Sandi Widal Language takes place informally in the family and community environment. The inhibiting factors for the socialization of the Sandi Widal Language are the flow of modernization, the declining interest of the younger generation, limited support from formal institutions and the dominance of the majority language. The driving factors are pride in local identity, hereditary traditions in the family and the efforts of the Sukabumi City Education and Culture Office to propose the Sandi Widal Language as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
