Abstract
Penggunaan dua bahasa dalam media pembelajaran lazim ditemukan dalam konteks pembelajaran bahasa asing. Podcast Talk To Me In Korean merupakan salah satu media pembelajaran yang menggunakan bahasa Korea dan bahasa Inggris dalam penyampaian materinya. Melalui interaksi antar pembawa acara, podcast ini menghadirkan praktik bilingualisme yang menarik untuk dikaji. Penelitian ini membahas fenomena alih kode dan campur kode dalam podcast Talk To Me In Korean di Spotify. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendalami kajian sosiolinguistik Bahasa Korea khususnya dengan mengidentifikasi bentuk alih kode dan campur kode yang muncul dalam tuturan pembawa acara serta faktor yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya tuturan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data berupa tuturan dalam delapan episode dipilih berdasarkan tema “interaksi”. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori alih kode yang dikemukakan oleh Blom & Gumperz (1971) dalam Hudson (1980) serta teori campur kode dari Muysken (2000). Selanjutnya, faktor yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya alih kode dan campur kode dianalisis berdasarkan teori Bhatia & Ritchie (2004). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bentuk alih kode yang paling sering muncul adalah jenis metaphorical. Sementara itu, alternation merupakan jenis yang paling sering muncul dalam bentuk campur kode. Adapun faktor yang paling sering melatarbelakangi terjadinya alih kode dan campur kode dalam tuturan adalah message qualification. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan bagi pembaca mengenai penggunaan alih kode dan campur kode dalam media pembelajaran, serta menjadi referensi yang relevan untuk penelitian selanjutnya. The use of two languages in learning media is a common practice in foreign language education. Talk To Me In Korean (TTMIK) is a podcast that exemplifies this approach by employing both Korean and English in its content delivery. Through host interactions, the podcast offers an engaging instance of bilingualism that merits scholarly exploration. This study investigates the phenomena of code-switching and code-mixing in the Talk To Me In Korean podcast available on Spotify. The primary objective is to examine the sociolinguistic features of Korean language use by identifying the forms of code-switching and code-mixing in the hists’ utterances, as well as the underlying factors that influence these linguistic choices. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data drawn from eight selected episodes centered around the theme of “interaction”. The analysis applies Blom and Gumperz’s (1971) theory of code-switching as cited in Hudson (1980), Muysken’s (2000) framework for code-mixing, and Bhatia & Ritchie’s (2004) theory for identifying influencing factors. The findings reveal that metaphorical code-switching is the most frequently observed form of code-switching, while alternation is the predominant type of code-mixing. The most common factor motivating both phenomena is message qualification. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of bilingual language use in educational media and offers valuable insights for future research in sociolinguistics and language pedagogy. 본 연구는 Spotify에서 제공되는 <Talk To Me In Korean> 팟캐스트에 나타나는 코드 전환과 코드 혼용 현상을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 외국어 학습의 맥락에서 학습 매체에 두 언어를 사용하는 현상은 일반적으로 나타난다. <Talk To Me In Korean> 팟캐스트는 한국어와 영어를 활용하여 콘텐츠를 전달하는 학습 매체의 한 예이다. 진행자들 간의 상호작용을 통해 이 팟캐스트는 분석할 가치가 있는 이중언어 사용의 흥미로운 사례를 제시한다. 본 연구는 진행자의 발화에 나타나는 코드 전환과 코드 혼용의 형태를 파악하며 그러한 언어 현상이 발생하게 된 요인을 규명하는 것이다. 본 연구는 질적 연구 방법을 사용하였으며 ‘상호작용’을 주제로 선정된 여덟 개의 에피소드에서 연구 자료로 수집되었다. 수집된 자료는 Hudson (1980)에 인용된 Blom & Gumperz (1971)의 코드 전환 이론과 Muysken (2000)의 코드 혼용 이론을 바탕으로 분석되었으며, Bhatia & Ritchie (2004) 의 이론에 따라 코드 전환 및 코드 혼용의 요인도 함께 분석되었다. 분석 결과에 따라, 가장 빈번하게 나타난 코드 전환 유형은 은유적 코드 전환 (metaphorical code-switching)이었으며, 가장 많이 나타난 코드 혼용 유형은 교대형 (alternation)이었다. 두 언어 현상에 가장 많이 영향을 미친 요인은 메시지 보완 (message qualification) 으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 학습 매체에서 나타나는 코드 전환과 코드 혼용의 양상에 대한 이해를 제공하며 관련 분야의 후속 연구에 유용한 참고 자료가 될 것으로 기대된다.
