Abstract

Belting merupakan salah satu teknik vokal yang menonjol dalam dunia musik pop dan rock, terutama untuk mencapai nada tinggi dengan kekuatan dan ketegasan. Once Mekel, sebagai salah satu vokalis ternama Indonesia, sering menggunakan teknik ini dalam penampilannya, termasuk dalam lagu "Arjuna". Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan terhadap keunikan teknik vokal belting yang diterapkan oleh Once Mekel, serta pentingnya pemahaman teknik tersebut dalam konteks pembelajaran vokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan teknik belting oleh Once Mekel dalam lagu "Arjuna", termasuk karakteristik vokal, dinamika, serta aspek teknis yang mendukung penerapan teknik ini. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi terhadap penampilan Once Mekel, analisis audio-visual, serta kajian literatur terkait teknik vokal belting. Teknik analisis data melibatkan transkripsi dan pengkajian mendalam terhadap elemen-elemen vokal yang mencakup register, resonansi, koordinasi otot tubuh bagian bawah dan sikap badan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Once Mekel mampu menguasai teknik belting dengan stabilitas suara yang terjaga dan ekspresi emosional yang kuat. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi para pelajar musik dalam memahami dan mengaplikasikan teknik belting secara efektif. Belting is one of the prominent vocal techniques in the world of pop and rock music, especially to reach high notes with power and assertiveness. Once Mekel, as one of Indonesia's famous vocalists, often uses this technique in his performances, including in the song “Arjuna”. This research is motivated by an interest in the uniqueness of the belting vocal technique applied by Once Mekel, as well as the importance of understanding the technique in the context of vocal learning. This research aims to analyze Once Mekel's use of belting technique in the song “Arjuna”, including vocal characteristics, dynamics, and technical aspects that support the application of this technique. The method used is a case study with a qualitative approach. Data was collected through observation of Once Mekel's performance, analysis of audio-visual, and literature review related to belting vocal technique. Data analysis techniques involved transcription and in-depth study of vocal elements including register, resonance, lower body muscle coordination and posture. The results show that Once Mekel is able to master the belting technique with maintained voice stability and strong emotional expression. This research is expected to be a reference for music students in understanding and applying belting techniques effectively.
