    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh perilaku tone deaf terhadap keterampilan sosial emosional mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Ilmu Sosial di Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), yang dipersiapkan sebagai calon guru IPS. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasari oleh fenomena meningkatnya perilaku tone deaf di kalangan mahasiswa, yang ditandai dengan rendahnya kepekaan terhadap isyarat sosial dan konteks emosional dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional, dengan data dikumpulkan dari 106 mahasiswa aktif dari empat angkatan (2021, 2022, 2023, dan 2024) melalui kuesioner terstruktur. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara perilaku tone deaf dan keterampilan sosial emosional (r = 0,639, p < 0,001). Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi perilaku tone deaf, semakin tinggi pula keterampilan sosial emosional yang dimiliki mahasiswa. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam konteks tertentu, tone deaf dapat berperan sebagai mekanisme adaptif yang memungkinkan individu tetap fokus dan stabil secara emosional di tengah tekanan sosial, meskipun berpotensi menghambat sensitivitas interpersonal. Implikasi dari penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pengembangan keterampilan sosial emosional dalam kurikulum pendidikan guru, guna membentuk pendidik yang tidak hanya kompeten secara akademik, tetapi juga empatik dan memiliki kesadaran sosial tinggi. Rekomendasi ditujukan bagi mahasiswa, institusi pendidikan, dan peneliti selanjutnya untuk mendorong terciptanya lingkungan pembelajaran yang lebih inklusif, reflektif, dan mendukung kesejahteraan sosial emosional peserta didik. This study investigates the impact of tone-deaf behavior on the social-emotional skills of students in the Social Studies Education program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), who are being prepared as future social studies teachers. The research is motivated by the increasing prevalence of tone-deaf behavior among university students, characterized by a lack of sensitivity to social cues and emotional context in interpersonal interactions. Employing a correlational quantitative approach, data were collected from 106 active students across four cohorts (2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024) using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between tone-deaf behavior and social-emotional skills (r = 0.639, p < 0.001). This suggests that higher levels of tone-deaf tendencies are associated with greater social-emotional competence. These results imply that, in certain contexts, tone-deafness may serve as an adaptive mechanism that helps individuals maintain emotional focus and resilience under social pressure, despite potentially limiting interpersonal sensitivity. The implications of this study highlight the importance of integrating social-emotional skill development into teacher education curricula. This is essential to prepare future educators who are not only academically competent but also empathetic and socially aware. Recommendations are provided for students, educational institutions, and future researchers to foster more inclusive, reflective, and emotionally supportive learning environments.
