    Abstract

    ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis teknik vokal growl (deep growl) yang digunakan oleh Kang Man, vokalis dari band Jasad, dalam lagu Bayu Sabda Hedap. Teknik vokal deep growl merupakan salah satu teknik vokal ekstrem yang sering digunakan dalam subgenre musik brutal death metal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan studi pustaka. Lagu Bayu Sabda Hedap dipilih sebagai objek karena memiliki kompleksitas musikal yang tinggi dan pemanfaatan teknik vokal yang dominan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik vokal deep growl yang digunakan oleh Kang Man memiliki karakteristik suara yang dalam, bergemuruh, dan kaya akan distorsi vokal, dengan intensitas dinamika yang bervariasi pada setiap bagian lagu. Selain itu, Kang Man juga menguasai teknik vokal ekstrem lainnya seperti scream, guttural, dan pig squeal, yang semuanya dipelajari secara otodidak tanpa mengalami cedera vokal. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Kang Man merupakan anomali dalam praktik teknik vokal ekstrem, karena mampu menguasai berbagai teknik dengan baik dan aman tanpa pendampingan profesional. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dalam bidang kajian vokal, khususnya dalam konteks musik ekstrem, serta menjadi rujukan bagi vokalis maupun akademisi yang tertarik pada studi teknik vokal non-konvensional. ABSTRACT This research aims to analyze the growl vocal technique (deep growl) used by Kang Man, the vocalist of the band Jasad, in the song Bayu Sabda Hedap. The deep growl vocal technique is one of the extreme vocal techniques frequently used in the brutal death metal subgenre. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods including observation, semi-structured interviews, and literature review. The song Bayu Sabda Hedap was selected as the object of study due to its high musical complexity and dominant use of vocal techniques. The results show that the deep growl vocal technique employed by Kang Man is characterized by a deep, rumbling sound rich in vocal distortion, with dynamic intensity that varies throughout different parts of the song. Furthermore, Kang Man also masters other extreme vocal techniques such as scream, guttural, and pig squeal. All of which he learned autodidactically without experiencing any vocal injury. These findings indicate that Kang Man is an anomaly in the practice of extreme vocal techniques, as he is able to master various techniques safely and effectively without professional guidance. This research is expected to contribute to the field of vocal studies, particularly in the context of extreme music, and to serve as a reference for vocalists and academics interested in the study of non-conventional vocal techniques.
