Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis Ekspresi Musikal DJ Carlo Atendido dalam kompetisi Red Bull 3Style World DJ Championship Mix dengan fokus pada keterampilan teknis, ekspresi artistik, dan interaksi dengan audiens. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk mengeksplorasi teknik-teknik DJing yang diterapkan oleh Carlo, termasuk scratching, beat juggling, mixing, dan looping. Selain itu, penelitian ini menyoroti pemanfaatan teknologi digital, seperti Rekordbox, sampler, dan digital controller, yang mendukung fleksibilitas dan kreativitas dalam pertunjukan. Carlo juga mengadopsi teknik lintas genre untuk memadukan elemen musik yang beragam, seperti hip-hop, EDM, dan pop, sehingga menghasilkan narasi musikal yang dinamis dan bervariasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Carlo Atendido tidak hanya memiliki keterampilan teknis yang sangat baik, tetapi juga mampu memanfaatkan improvisasi secara real-time untuk menciptakan pengalaman musikal yang interaktif. Teknik call and response yang diterapkannya membangun koneksi emosional yang kuat dengan audiens, sementara elemen visual, seperti pencahayaan sinkron dan digital visualizer, menambah dimensi estetika yang memikat. Carlo juga menunjukkan inovasi melalui pembuatan mashup lintas genre dan pemanfaatan fitur teknologi untuk memperkaya dinamika pertunjukan. Pendekatan ini mencerminkan kemampuannya dalam memahami dan memengaruhi audiens melalui kombinasi elemen teknis, musikal, dan visual. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa DJ Carlo Atendido berhasil mengintegrasikan keterampilan teknis, kreativitas, dan teknologi modern dalam setiap aspek penampilannya, menjadikannya salah satu DJ yang paling menonjol dalam kompetisi internasional ini. Temuan ini tidak hanya memberikan wawasan baru mengenai evolusi seni DJing di era digital, tetapi juga menjadi referensi penting bagi praktisi dan pendidik musik dalam mengembangkan performa seni musik yang inovatif dan relevan bagi audiens masa kini. This study aims to analyse DJ Carlo Atendido's Musical Expression in the Red Bull 3Style World DJ Championship Mix Competition, focusing on technical skills, artistic expression, and audience interaction. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to explore the DJing techniques utilised by Carlo, including scratching, beat juggling, mixing, and looping. Additionally, the research highlights the use of digital technology, such as Rekordbox, samplers, and digital controllers, which support flexibility and creativity in performances. Carlo also adopts cross-genre techniques to blend diverse musical elements, such as hip-hop, EDM, and pop, resulting in a dynamic and varied musical narrative. The findings indicate that Carlo Atendido not only possesses exceptional technical skills but also effectively employs real-time improvisation to create an interactive musical experience. His use of call-and-response techniques establishes a strong emotional connection with the audience, while visual elements, such as synchronised lighting and digital visualisers, add an engaging aesthetic dimension. Carlo further demonstrates innovation through cross-genre mashups and the use of technological features to enhance the dynamics of his performances. This approach reflects his ability to understand and influence the audience through a combination of technical, musical, and visual elements. This research concludes that DJ Carlo Atendido successfully integrates technical proficiency, creativity, and modern technology into every aspect of his performance, establishing himself as one of the most outstanding DJs in this international competition. These findings not only provide new insights into the evolution of DJing as an art form in the digital era but also serve as a valuable reference for music practitioners and educators in developing innovative and audience-relevant musical performances.
