Abstract

ABSTRAK Di abad ke-21, kemampuan berbicara merupakan hal yang sangat penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, terutama di sekolah dasar. Tantangan yang dihadapi oleh siswa pada umumnya adalah kurangnya rasa percaya diri, kecemasan, dan keterbatasan kosakata. Mendongeng digital (DST) merupakan solusi inovatif yang menggabungkan cerita tradisional dengan media digital seperti gambar, audio, dan video untuk menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang interaktif dan menarik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis elemen-elemen dari digital storytelling dengan menggunakan Tujuh Elemen Digital Storytelling oleh Lambert (2013) dan untuk menguji sejauh mana multimedia dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara siswa sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan studi kasus kualitatif yang melibatkan 21 siswa kelas lima dan 1 guru bahasa Inggris. Data yang diperoleh melalui observasi kelas, analisis dokumen proyek DST siswa, dan wawancara dengan siswa serta guru menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa DST efektif dalam meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan keberanian siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris meskipun ada beberapa tantangan yang dihadapi. Selain itu, penggunaan DST di kelas speaking memungkinkan siswa untuk mengekspresikan ide-ide mereka dengan cara yang lebih kreatif dan terstruktur. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi pada pengembangan strategi pengajaran bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar. Kata kunci: Keterampilan berbicara, mendongeng digital ABSTRACT In the 21st century, speaking skills are essential in learning English, especially in elementary school. The challenges faced by students generally include lack of confidence, anxiety, and limited vocabulary. Digital storytelling is an innovative solution that combines traditional stories with digital media such as images, audio, and video to create an interactive and engaging learning experience. The aims of this study are to analyze the elements of digital storytelling using the Seven Elements of Digital Storytelling by Lambert (2013) and to examine the extent to which multimedia can affect speaking skills of elementary school students. This research method used a qualitative case study involving 21 fifth grade students and one English teacher. Data obtained through classroom observation, document analysis of students’ DST projects, and interviews with students as well as teachers led to the conclusion that DST was effective in increasing students’ motivation, engagement, and courage in speaking English despite the challenges faced. In addition, the use of DST in speaking class allows students to express their ideas in a more creative as well as structured manner. The findings are expected to contribute to the development of English language teaching strategies in the primary school setting. Keywords: Speaking skills, digital storytelling
