    Abstract

    Pencemaran lingkungan menghadirkan tantangan yang signifikan bagi kesehatan masyarakat dan ekosistem secara global. Mendidik siswa tentang masalah ini sangat penting untuk menumbuhkan minat dan keingintahuan sekaligus mempersiapkan mereka untuk menghadapi tantangan di dunia nyata. Studi ini meneliti dampak dari Proses Desain STEM-Engineering (STEM-EDP) terhadap minat dan keingintahuan siswa dalam topik pencemaran lingkungan. Kelas eksperimen menggunakan STEM-EDP dan kelas kontrol menggunakan metode konvensional. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol pretest-posttest non-ekuivalen. Penelitian ini melibatkan 34 siswa di kelas eksperimen dan 36 siswa di kelas kontrol, keduanya merupakan siswa kelas 7 dari salah satu sekolah di Cimahi, Indonesia. Peneliti menggunakan instrumen kuesioner untuk mengukur minat dan keingintahuan siswa dalam belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan pada kelas eksperimen dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan diterimanya Ha yang berarti terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap minat dan rasa ingin tahu siswa dalam pembelajaran pencemaran lingkungan. Hasil ini didukung oleh nilai N-Gain kelas eksperimen untuk minat siswa sebesar 0,313 dan rasa ingin tahu siswa sebesar 0,383, keduanya menunjukkan peningkatan yang sedang. Sedangkan N-gain kelas kontrol sebesar 0,013 untuk minat siswa dan 0,021 untuk keingintahuan siswa, keduanya menunjukkan peningkatan yang rendah. Selain itu, korelasi positif yang sedang antara minat dan keingintahuan siswa menekankan pentingnya menangani variabel-variabel ini secara holistik, dengan nilai (p) = 0,002 dan (rs) = 0,522. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa STEM-EDP secara efektif meningkatkan minat dan keingintahuan siswa terhadap pencemaran lingkungan, menjadikannya pendekatan yang menjanjikan untuk mengintegrasikan keberlanjutan ke dalam pendidikan sains.

    Environmental pollution presents significant challenges to public health and ecosystems globally. Educating students about this issue is crucial to fostering interest and curiosity while preparing them to address real-world challenges. This study examines the effect of the STEM-Engineering Design Process (STEM-EDP) on students' interest and curiosity in environmental pollution topics. The experimental class employs STEM-EDP, and the control class uses conventional methods. This research used quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Involving 34 students in the experiment class and 36 students in the control class, both 7th grade students from one of the schools in Cimahi, Indonesia. The researcher used the instrument questionnaire to measure students’ interest and curiosity in learning. Results revealed a significant difference in the experiment class compared to the control class, proven by the acceptance of Ha, which means that there is significant difference on students’ interest and curiosity in learning environmental pollution. This result is supported by the value of the experimental class’s N-Gain was 0.313 for students’ interest and 0.383 for students’ curiosity; both showed a medium increase. While the control class N-gain was 0.013 for students’ interest and 0.021 for students’ curiosity; both showed low increases. Additionally, the moderate positive correlation between students' interest and curiosity with scores of (p) = 0.002 and (rs) = 0.522, emphasizes the importance of addressing these variables holistically. These findings demonstrate that STEM-EDP effectively enhances students' interest and curiosity in environmental pollution, making it a promising approach for integrating sustainability into science education.
