Abstract
Kegiatan praktikum tentang tumbuhan rendah (Cryptogamic Botany) tidak terlepas dari prinsip pendeskripsian karakteristik morfologi suatu macam tumbuhan. Untuk mengamati ciri morfologi suatu tumbuhan menuntut ketelitian, rasa ingin tahu yang tinggi, kreatifitas yang memadai, dan kejujuran/objektifitas dalam melaporkan hasil pemerincian setiap ciri yang dimiliki oleh tumbuhan yang diamati. Akan tetapi kenyataannya keterlibatan karakter tersebut belum tampak pada setiap praktikan, sehingga perlu pembinaan atau penguatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk penguatan karakter ilmiah mahasiswa melalui program praktikum menggunakan panduan praktikum Cryptogamic Botany yang terintegrasi karakter. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Mixed Method desain the exploratory sequential design; dimana pengembangan panduan praktikumnya menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner, wawancara, dan observasi. Sampel ditentukan secara purposive sampling, dengan jumlah 135 orang mahasiswa dan 4 orang dosen mata kuliah Cryptogamic Botany. Penelitian dilakukan di kota Banjarmasin dan Banjarbaru Kalimantan Selatan. Data dianalisis secara Kualitatif dan Kuantitatif. Program praktikum menggunakan panduan yang dikembangkan dengan mengikuti sintaks model pembelajaran PBL. Panduan praktikum berbentuk buku panduan cetak dan berupa link flipbook HTML.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa validasi panduan praktikum yang dikembangkan dari segi muatan materi telah memenuhi kategori sangat baik (95,5%), desain dan tampilan sangat baik (87,78%), dan pola integrasi karakter juga dinilai sangat baik (88,57%) oleh Validator. Hasil implementasi panduan praktikum menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan (p<0,05) antara pre-test dan post-test praktikan. Pencapaian indikator karakter ilmiah secara umum diperoleh 83,26%; dimana karakter teliti sebesar 84,86%, rasa ingin tahu sebesar 84,9%, karakter kreatif sebesar 76,01%, dan karakter jujur/ objektif diperoleh 87,27% dengan kategori sangat baik. Program praktikum Cryptogamic Botany menggunakan panduan praktikum terintegrasi karakter yang berbasis Problem Based Learning (PBL) mampu menguatkan karakter ilmiah mahasiswa, sehingga diharapkan menjadi masukan bagi dosen agar program praktikum mampu menumbuhkan dan menguatkan karakter ilmiah mahasiswa. The laboratory activities on lower plants (Cryptogamic Botany) are inseparable from the principles of describing the morphological characteristics of plant species. Observing the morphological features of plants requires precision, a high level of curiosity, adequate creativity, and honesty or objectivity in reporting the detailed characteristics of the observed plants. However, in practice, these character traits are not yet consistently evident among all students, indicating the need for reinforcement and development. This research aims to strengthen the scientific character of students through a laboratory activities program using a character-integrated Cryptogamic Botany laboratory manual. The study employs a mixed-method approach with an exploratory sequential design, where the development of the practicum guide follows the ADDIE development model. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, interviews, and observations. A purposive sampling method was used to select 135 students and 4 lecturers of the Cryptogamic Botany course as the sample. The research was conducted in Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. Data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The practicum program utilized a guide developed based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, available as a printed manual and an HTML flipbook link. The research findings indicate that the developed laboratory manual was validated with excellent ratings in terms of material content (95.5%), design and appearance (87.78%), and character integration patterns (88.57%) by validators. The implementation results showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between the pre-test and post-test scores of the students. The overall achievement of scientific character indicators was 83.26%, comprising meticulousness (84.86%), curiosity (84.9%), creativity (76.01%), and honesty/objectivity (87.27%), all categorized as very good. The Cryptogamic Botany practicum program using a character-integrated guide based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has proven effective in strengthening students' scientific character. This approach is expected to provide valuable input for lecturers to design practicum programs that foster and reinforce students' scientific character.
