Abstract
The development of information technology has transformed students' learning methods, enabling learning to occur in various public spaces, including Cafés. The Learning from Café phenomenon is increasingly popular among students, especially in major cities like Bandung. Despite this growing trend, understanding of how Café aspects as Learning Spaces relate to students' independent learning processes remains limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the utilization of Cafés as Learning Spaces, focusing on social and Physical Dimensions, and students' Self-Regulated Learning (SRL). The Social Dimension includes Privacy/Retreat, Interaction/Communication, and Autonomy/Control, while the Physical Dimension encompasses Comfort, Aesthetic, ICT Facilities, and Layout. Using a quantitative approach with an ex post facto method, this study involved 118 active UPI students. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman's Rho correlation test. The results show a positive and significant relationship between the utilization of Cafés as Learning Spaces and students' SRL (r = 0.589, p < 0.01). The Physical Dimension of Cafés (r = 0.503) has a slightly stronger correlation with SRL compared to the Social Dimension (r = 0.482). These findings imply the importance of considering both physical and social elements of Cafés in designing Learning Spaces that support students' SRL. Thus, it can be concluded that Cafés as Learning Spaces have significant potential in supporting student’s SRL, with the Physical Dimension playing a slightly more important role. This research contributes to understanding the role of alternative Learning Spaces in supporting students' independent learning processes and suggests the development of learning facilities that adopt positive characteristics of Cafés.
