Abstract

Bandung is one of the fashion cities in Indonesia where there are various fashion trends such as the thrifting phenomenon. Although the legality of thrifting in Indonesia has been tightened by the ban on the import of second-hand clothing, the phenomenon continues to thrive in the community. The increasing demand for clothing in the textile industry creates new problems for the environment, so it requires immediate handling from the community. This study aims to determine the development of the thrifting phenomenon such as the distribution of thrift shop locations and consumer motives for thrifting as well as the level of awareness of clothing waste in the city of Bandung. The approach taken in this research is descriptive quantitative using survey research method. The research respondents who contributed to this study were 100 individuals who live in the city of Bandung. The results show that the distribution pattern of thrift shops is formed randomly and most respondents do thrifting because of the accessibility motive.. The level of public awareness of clothing waste in Bandung city is quite high, indicated by the knowledge of waste management that has been mastered by the community and the behaviour of the community in favour of the environment
