Abstract

Ekstrakurikuler memiliki peran penting dalam mengembangkan bakat, minat bahkan prestasi siswa. SMPN 1 Cimahi merupakan sekolah dengan reputasi prestasi yang baik berkat ekstrakurikulernya, tetapi terdapat ketimpangan prestasi siswa dalam bidang studi IPA dan IPS di SMPN 1 Cimahi ini, salah satu faktornya karena belum adanya ekstrakurikuler yang fokus pada pembinaan prestasi IPS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran Ekstrakurikuler Kelompok Ilmiah Remaja IPS (KIR-IPS) dalam membina prestasi akademik siswa di SMPN 1 Cimahi, dan mengisi kesenjangan penelitian mengenai keterkaitan antara kegiatan ekstrakurikuler dan prestasi akademik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini berisi; Latar belakang berdirinya KIR-IPS di SMPN 1 Cimahi adalah karena terdapat potensi keminatan siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS yang belum memiliki wadah pengembangannya serta adanya keperluan pengiriman siswa pada ajang Olimpiade IPS berbagai tingkatan. Kegiatan ekstrakurikuler KIR-IPS tahun ajaran 2023-2024, terdapat dua program kerja utama yakni Pembinaan OSN IPS dan Study Tour, pembinaan OSN IPS dilaksanakan menggunakan metode umum dan metode khusus, sedangkan Studi Tour adalah kunjungan edukatif ke tempat-tempat bersejarah dan museum. Adapun peran KIR-IPS dalam membina prestasi akademik siswa tahun ajaran 2023-2024, yakni KIR-IPS tercacat pernah menjuarai beberapa Olimpiade, diantaranya Medali Perak Olimpiade IPS Tingkat Nasional, Juara 3 Tingkat Provinsi Olimpiade IPS Sains Bima Nasional, dsb, tetapi pada tahun 2024 ini KIR-IPS belum berhasil mendapatkan juara pada ajang Olimpiade IPS. Selanjutnya KIR-IPS juga menunjukkan peningkatan prestasi siswa pada pembelajaran IPS di kelas, yakni pada nilai rapor, nilai ulangan harian dan keaktifan. Extracurricular activities play an important role in developing students' talents, interests and even achievements. SMPN 1 Cimahi is a school with a good reputation for achievement thanks to its extracurricular activities, but there is an imbalance in achievement in the fields of science and social studies at SMPN 1 Cimahi, one of the factors is because there is no extracurricular activity that focuses on fostering students' social studies achievements. This study aims to analyze the role of the Social Studies Youth Scientific Group (KIR-IPS) in fostering students' academic achievement at SMPN 1 Cimahi, and to fill the research gap regarding the relationship between extracurricular activities and academic achievement. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and documentation studies. The results of this study contain; The background to the establishment of KIR-IPS at SMPN 1 Cimahi is because there is potential for student interest in social studies subjects that do not yet have a place to develop them and the need to send students to various levels of social studies Olympiads. Extracurricular activities of KIR-IPS for the 2023-2024 academic year, there are two main work programs, namely OSN IPS Coaching and Study Tour, OSN IPS coaching is carried out using general and special methods, while Study Tour is an educational visit to historical places and museums. The role of KIR-IPS in fostering academic achievement of students for the 2023-2024 academic year, namely KIR-IPS has won several Olympiads, including the Silver Medal at the National Level IPS Olympiad, 3rd Place at the Provincial Level at the Bima National Science IPS Olympiad, etc., but in 2024 KIR-IPS has not succeeded in winning the IPS Olympiad again. Furthermore, KIR-IPS also shows an increase in student achievement in IPS learning in class, namely in report card scores, daily test scores and activeness.
