Abstract
Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) telah memberikan dampak signifikan pada berbagai aspek kehidupan termasuk pendidikan yang membuat Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) berupaya mengadopsi teknologi untuk mendukung kegiatan belajar-mengajar. Konektivitas internet menjadi aspek penting dalam infrastruktur TIK di UPI, dimana penempatan modem di setiap gedung sangat krusial untuk memastikan akses sinyal yang optimal bagi civitas akademika. Namun, kendala seperti jangkauan sinyal yang tidak merata di beberapa area gedung sering terjadi dapat mengurangi kenyamanan pengguna. Penelitian ini mengusulkan solusi dengan menggunakan pendekatan masalah iluminasi modem (modem illumination problem) yang merupakan pengembangan dari Art Gallery Problem. Penerapan konsep 2-modem yang mampu menembus maksimal sebanyak 2 buah dinding di gedung FPMIPA-A UPI, diharapkan seluruh area gedung dapat terjangkau sinyal modem secara optimal. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, total 2-modem yang perlu dipasang di gedung FPMIPA-A adalah 40 buah 2-modem. Implementasi ini bertujuan untuk memastikan ketersediaan sinyal yang memadai guna mendukung aktivitas akademik dan operasional civitas akademika di UPI, sehingga mempercepat akses informasi dan mendukung proses belajar�mengajar secara efektif. The development of information and communication technology (ICT) has significantly impacted various aspects of life including education, prompting Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) to adopt technology to support teaching and learning activities. Internet connectivity is a critical aspect of ICT infrastructure at UPI, where the placement of modems in each building is crucial to ensure optimal signal access for the academic community. However, challenges such as uneven signal coverage in some building areas often occur, reducing user comfort. This research proposes a solution using the modem illumination problem approach, an extension of the Art Gallery Problem. By applying the concept of a 2- modem, which can penetrate up to two walls in the FPMIPA-A building at UPI, it is expected that the entire building area will be optimally covered by the modem signal. Based on the analysis results, the total number of 2-modems that need to be installed in the FPMIPA-A is 40 modems. This implementation aims to ensure adequate signal availability to support academic and operational activities of the UPI academic community, thus accelerating information access and effectively supporting the teaching and learning process.
