Abstract

Limbah elektronik memiliki kandungan logam mencapai 60% yang sebagian besar terdiri dari logam Fe, Si, Sn, dan Cu, sehingga dapat menyebabkan pencemaran air dan tanah. Adsorpsi merupakan salah satu teknik penghilangan logam berat dalam air yang paling banyak digunakan. Salah satu bahan adsorben yang berpotensi untuk mengadsorpsi logam Fe dalam air adalah Nickel/Alumunium Layered Double Hydroxide (Ni/Al LDH) yang diinterkalasi dengan Chitosan Schiff Base (CSB). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai kondisi optimum sintesis, karakterisasi, dan kinerja CSB-Ni/Al LDH dalam mengadsorpsi logam Fe (II) dalam air. Interkalasi CSB ke Ni/Al LDH dilakukan melalui metode kopresipitasi. CSB-Ni/Al LDH kemudian dikarakterisasi menggunakan FTIR, XRD, dan BET N2 adsorption-Desorption. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan interkalasi CSB pada Ni/Al LDH diindikasikan dengan serapan FTIR pada bilangan gelombang 1060 cm-1, 2923 cm-1, dan <1000 cm-1 masing-masing untuk vibrasi ulur C-O, C-H, dan Ni-O/Al-O/Ni-OH/Al-OH. Selain itu, difraktogram sinar-X mengkonfirmasi keberhasilan interkalasi ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan lebar puncak 2θ = 22°, pergeseran beberapa puncak difraksi pada 2θ 11,50° (11,54°); 22,81° (22,74°); 35,20° (35,16°); 39,15° (40,02°); 48,34° (46,69°); 61,80° (61,58°), dan peningkatan interlayer spacing (d). Interkalasi CSB-Ni/Al LDH juga dikonfirmasi dengan peningkatan specific surface area, mean pore size, dan total pore volume berturut-turut menjadi 165,357 m2/g, 2,84 nm, dan 0,020 cm3/g. Kinerja adsorpsi ion Fe (II) dalam air oleh CSB-Ni/Al LDH ditemukan lebih besar dari Ni/Al LDH murni dengan nilai %penyisihan sebesar 54,74%. Electronic waste contains up to 60% metal, primarily composed of Fe, Si, Sn, and Cu, which can cause water and soil pollution. Adsorption is one of the most widely used techniques for removing heavy metals from water. One potential adsorbent for Fe in water is Nickel/Aluminum Layered Double Hydroxide (Ni/Al LDH) intercalated with Chitosan Schiff Base (CSB). This research aims to obtain information regarding the optimal synthesis conditions, characterization, and performance of CSB-Ni/Al LDH in adsorbing Fe(II) from water. The intercalation of CSB into Ni/Al LDH was conducted through the co-precipitation method. CSB-Ni/Al LDH was then characterized using FTIR, XRD, and BET N₂ adsorption. The results indicate that the successful intercalation of CSB into Ni/Al LDH is evidenced by the FTIR absorption at wavenumbers 1060 cm⁻¹, 2923 cm⁻¹, and <1000 cm⁻¹ for C-O, C-H, and Ni-O/Al-O/Ni-OH/Al-OH stretching vibrations, respectively. Additionally, X-ray diffractograms confirmed the successful intercalation, as shown by an increase the width of the 2θ = 22° peak, a shift in several diffraction peaks at 2θ 11.50° (11.54°); 22.81° (22.74°); 35.20° (35.16°); 39.15° (40.02°); 48.34° (46.69°); 61.80° (61.58°) and an increase the interlayer spacing (d). The intercalation of CSB-Ni/Al LDH was also confirmed by an increase in specific surface area, mean pore size, and total pore volume to 165.357 m²/g, 2.84 nm, and 0.020 cm³/g, respectively. The adsorption performance of Fe(II) ions in water by CSB-Ni/Al LDH was found to be greater than that of pure Ni/Al LDH, with a %removal value of 54.74%.
