Abstract

Karakter gemar membaca anak sangat dipengaruhi ketika anak mulai berkembang pada usia dini. Peran sekolah dan orang tua sangat berpengaruh terhadap kebiasaan anak untuk memiliki karakter gemar membaca. Kurangnya stimulasi yang diberikan oleh orang tua hingga kurangnya memanfaatkan media pembelajaran di sekolah menjadi penyebab minimnya kegemaran membaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penanaman nilai karakter gemar membaca dan mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan buku cerita bergambar dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai karakter gemar membaca pada anak usia dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pre-experimental designs dengan desain one group pre-test post-test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu anak usia 5-6 tahun di PAUD X yang terletak di Kecamatan Jatisari Karawang. Pemilihan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik nonprobability sampling, sebanyak 20 anak diberikan perlakuan dengan menggunakan buku cerita bergambar. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu lembar observasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji t, dan uji N-Gain score berbantuan software SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa buku bergambar mempunyai pengaruh dan dinilai cukup efektif dalam upaya menanamkan nilai karakter gemar membaca yang terlihat dari perbedaan hasil pretest dan posttest. ----- The character of children's love of reading is strongly influenced when children begin to develop at an early age. The role of schools and parents is very influential on children's habits to have a character fond of reading. The lack of stimulation provided by parents to the lack of utilizing learning media at school is the cause of the lack of love of reading. This study aims to determine the cultivation of character values of fond of reading and determine the effectiveness of using picture storybooks in instilling character values of fond of reading in early childhood. The research method used pre-experimental designs with a one group pre-test post-test design. The population in this study were children aged 5-6 years at PAUD X located in Jatisari District, Karawang. The sample selection was carried out using nonprobability sampling technique, as many as 20 children were given treatment using picture storybooks. The research instrument used was an observation sheet. Data analysis techniques using normality test, homogeneity test, t test, and N-Gain score test assisted by SPSS software. The results showed that picture books have an influence and are considered quite effective in efforts to instill the value of characters who like to read as seen from the difference in pretest and posttest results.
