Abstract

Tokoh Ibu yang terdapat dalam novel Eomma-reul Butakhae karya Shin Kyung Sook menunjukkan gambaran bagaimana kehidupan seorang ibu sekaligus istri di tahun 2000-an di Korea Selatan, di mana budaya patriarki melekat dalam kehidupan sehari-harinya sebagai seorang ibu dan istri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur novel dan representasi sosok ibu dalam novel Eomma-reul Butakhae karya Shin Kyung-sook dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teori pertama yang digunakan adalah teori strukturalisme Todorov untuk menganalisis struktur cerita novel Eomma-reul Butakhae. Teori yang kedua adalah teori representasi Hall untuk menganalisis representasi Ibu dalam novel Eomma-reul Butakhae. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan struktur cerita novel dalam tiga aspek, yaitu aspek sintaksis, aspek semantik, dan aspek pragmatik. Novel ini terdiri dari 201 sekuen dan memiliki alur gabungan maju mundur. Tokoh utama terdiri dari Ibu dan keluarga. Latar cerita mengandung 9 jenis latar tempat, 21 jenis latar waktu, dan 2 jenis latar sosial budaya. Tema yang terkandung adalah penyesalan dan kesedihan yang tersisa setelah Ibu tiada. Kemudian terdapat pencerita intern dan ekstern, wicara yang dilaporkan, wicara yang dialihkan, wicara yang dinarasikan, waktu dunia yang digambarkan, dan waktu wacana yang menggambarkan. Novel ini menggunakan sudut pandang orang kedua, sudut pandang orang ketiga-terbatas, dan sudut pandang orang pertama-utama. Selain itu, tokoh Ibu dalam novel merepresentasikan ibu sebagai rumah, ibu sebagai seorang koki, dan ibu yang tidak bisa melarikan diri. Ketiga jenis representasi ini muncul berdasarkan tokoh Ibu yang mengalami dampak dari budaya patriarki di Korea Selatan pada tahun 2000-an. The mother character in the novel Eomma-reul Butakhae by Shin Kyung-sook shows the life of a mother and wife in the 2000s in South Korea, where patriarchal culture was embedded in her daily life. This research aims to describe the structure of the novel and the representation of the mother figure within it, using qualitative descriptive methods. The first theory used is Todorov's structuralism theory, which analyzes the story structure of the novel. The second theory is Hall's representation theory, used to analyze the representation of the mother in the novel. The results of this research show the structure of the novel story in three aspects, namely the syntactic aspect, the semantic aspect, and the pragmatic aspect. This novel consists of 201 sequences and has back-and-forth flow. The main characters are the mother and family. The story setting contains 9 types of place settings, 21 types of time settings, and 2 types of socio-cultural settings. There are internal and external storytellers, reported speech, transferred speech, narrated speech, depicted world time, and depicted discourse time. This novel uses second person’s point of view, third person’s limited point of view, and first person’s point of view. The mother character in the novel represents the mother as the house, the mother as a chef, and the mother who cannot escape. These three types of representation emerged based on the mother figure who experienced the impact of patriarchal culture in the 2000s in South Korea.
