Abstract
Latar belakang masalah atas dasar kekaguman akan sosok seorang Nelson mandela “Bapak Afrika Selatan”. Perjuangan tanpa pamrihnya dalam memimpin pergerakan menumbangkan pemerintahan Apartheid di Afrika Selatan. Kurangnya penghargaan martabat manusia yang dialami oleh orang Afrika Selatan pada saat itu (1950), akibat dari kebijakan supremasi kulit putih, supremasi kulit putih menyiratkan inferioritas kulit hitam. Kekaguman tersebut digagaskan penulis dalam sebuah karya relief berbahan limbah kayu dengan mengambil objek figur Nelson Mandela. Penulis membuat perumusan masalah dan beberapa pertanyaan untuk mempermudah dalam proses penciptaan karya yang akan dibuat, yaitu :1) Bagaimana proses dan teknik mengolah kayu limbah sebagai bahan untuk membuat karya seni relief?, 2) Bagaimana memvisualisasikan perjuangan Nelson mandela dalam menghapuskan politik Apartheid dan kecintaannya terhadap karya budaya Indonesia yaitu batik ke dalam karya seni relief dari bahan limbah kayu?. Metode penciptaan yang dilakukan penulis adalah sebagai berikut, Eksplorasi, Improvisasi, dan Proses Penciptaan (Forming). Sedangkan proses penciptaannya terdiri dari persiapan alat dan bahan, pembuatan sketsa, pembuatan model, pengerjaan karya, dan pengemasan karya. Kesimpulan dari hasil penciptaan karya relief ini adalah, dalam prosesnya telah menciptakan 4 (empat) buah karya. Selanjutnya karya relief ini divisualisasikan melalui tahapan penciptaan yang telah dijabarkan, dengan menggunakan media limbah kayu dengan teknik ukir menggunakan pahat dan router (mesin profil). Karya-karya yang dihasilkan merupakan konsep penulis yang diharapkan mewakili figure yang menjadi simbol persamaan ras, dimana semua orang dari berbagai suku, bangsa, negara, agama, dan warna kulit memiliki hak sama. Kata Kunci : Nelson mandela, Seni Relief Background problem on the basis of a fascination with the figure of Nelson Mandela "Father of South Africa". Lack of appreciation of human dignity experienced by South Africa at the time (1950), as a result of the policy of white supremacy, white supremacy implies the inferiority of black . The admiration of the proposed authors in a paper made from waste wood relief by taking the object figure Nelson Mandela. The author makes the formulation of the problem and a few questions to simplify the process of creating the work to be made, namely: 1) What is the process and techniques of processing wood waste as a material for making art relief?, 2) How to visualize the struggle of Nelson Mandela in abolishing apartheid politics and love the culture of Indonesia, batik work in relief artwork from wood waste material?. The method of creation by the author is as follows, exploration , improvisation, and the Creative Process (Forming). While the creation process consists of preparation tools and materials, sketching, modeling, construction paper, and packaging work. The conclusion of this is the creation of relief work, in the process has created a four (4) pieces of work. Further relief work is visualized through the stages of creation that has been described, using the medium of wood waste with a chisel and carving techniques using the router (machine profiles). The works produced by an author who is expected to represent the concept of a figure who became a symbol of racial equality, where all the people from various tribes, nations, countries, religions, and skin color have the same rights.
