Abstract

This study used a qualitative approach using the Didactical Design Research (DDR) method. This research is motivated by the importance of improving the mathematical connection skills of fourth grade elementary school students on the area of squares and rectangles. Researchers used ethnomathematics learning based on the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model through Baduy weaving. The purpose of this study was to improve mathematical connection skills in the matter of the area of squares and rectangles using ethnomathematics learning based on realistic mathematics education models through Baduy weaving. In the first stage, the researcher conducted an LO test to identify the learning obstacles experienced by students regarding the area of squares and rectangles. The next stage, after the results of the LO analysis were obtained based on the predictions of student responses, the second step was to develop an Initial Didactic Design (DDA) to overcome the learning obstacles that occurred in the previous stage. The last step is to compile a Didactic Design Revision (RDD) which is made based on the learning obstacles that occur in the implementation of DDA. After going through these three stages, the researcher obtained optimal results and was able to overcome the learning obstacles that occurred in the area of square and rectangular areas using Baduy weaving in ethnomathematics learning based on realistic mathematics education models.
