Abstract

This research is about the use of films as the media in teaching narrative writing skill to the ninth grade students in one of the junior high schools in Bandung. The aims of the study are to investigate the improvement of the students’ writing skills in narrative text through the use of films as the media and to find out the students’ responses toward the use of films as the media in improving their writing skill. In doing the research, this study used a quasi experimental research. The researcher took two classes as the experimental and control groups. The techniques used for collecting data were pretest, posttest, and interview. Pretest was conducted at the beginning of the research to the control and experimental groups. Then, four treatments were given to the experimental group. Finally, posttest was employed to both groups. Interview was also administered to the experimental group. The data of the study were analyzed by using SPSS version 17.0. The results showed that the media of films are effective in improving narrative writing skill. From the interview, most students also showed positive responses towards the use of film as the media in teaching narrative writing.
