In every language, including Japanese, there are words that have more than one meaning, often called polysemy. One of the polysemy words is the verb tataku, which the author will discuss in this study. The problem often faced by foreign language learners related to polysemy words is the difficulty of using and translating the word into sentences. The purpose of this study is to describe the basic meaning and extended meaning possessed by the verb tataku and the relationship between the basic meaning and the meaning of the expansion of the verb tataku. The relationship between the meaning of the verb tataku is described by three figures of speech, namely metaphor, metonymy, and synecdoche. The method used in this study is the descriptive method.
