Abstract

Kampus UPI Purwakarta saat ini menyediakan 36 access point dengan bandwidth sebesar 650 Mbps untuk memenuhi kebutuhan jaringan tersebut. Namun dengan fasilitas tersebut masih ditemukannya keresahan jaringan internet yang kurang maksimal, yang dialami oleh sebagian mahasiswa diantara yaitu, seperti : jangkauan Wifi yang kurang menyeluruh dan kurang stabil terutama di lantai 4 ruang kelas Sistel 1 dan ruang kelas MKB, terdapat blind spot di titik-titik tertentu seperti masjid, kantin dan asrama, fasilitas Wifi yang tidak tersedia 24 jam (biasanya tidak bisa digunakan setelah pukul 4 sore), dan saat lalu lintas internet sedang padat terutama saat akhir semester (ujian), kecepatan internet menjadi tidak stabil dan melambat bahkan terkadang sulit diakses & tidak terhubung. Berdasarkan pemaparan tersebut, penulis tertarik untuk mengevaluasi kualitas kinerja jaringan internet WLAN di Kampus UPI Purwakarta dengan menggunakan standar TIPHON dan metode QoS (Quality of Service) dengan menghitung beberapa parameter throughput, delay, jitter, dan packet loss. Berdasarkan dari hasil pengukuran yang telah dilakukan. Didapatkan throughput sebesar 3494,05 kbps, packet loss sebesar 0,03%, delay sebesar 29,77 ms, dan jitter sebesar 0,02 ms, dengan masing-masing parameter ber-indeks 4 dan termasuk kedalam kategori sangat baik menurut standar TIPHON. Meski demikian, didapatkan pula nilai throughput yang sangat buruk pada saat pengukuran QOS dengan skenario ping (IP default gateway dan domain youtube), hal tersebut salah satunya dikarenakan bandwidth yang tidak dikelola dengan baik (tidak dilakukannya penerapan metode manajemen bandwidth dalam mengelola jaringan WLAN). ----- The UPI Purwakarta campus currently provides 36 access points with a bandwidth of 650 Mbps to fulfill the network requirements. However, despite these facilities, issues with the internet network have been identified that are less than optimal, experienced by some students, including: incomplete Wifi coverage and instability, particularly on the 4th floor of Sistel 1 classroom and MKB classroom; certain blind spots in specific areas such as the mosque, cafeteria, and dormitory; limited availability of Wifi (typically unavailable after 4 pm); and during heavy internet traffic, especially towards the end of the semester (during exams), internet speed becomes unstable, slows down, and sometimes even becomes difficult to access or fails to connect. Based on the aforementioned description, the author is inclined to evaluate the quality of WLAN internet network performance at the UPI Purwakarta campus using TIPHON standards and the Quality of Service (QoS) method. This evaluation involves measuring several parameters: throughput, delay, jitter, and packet loss. The results of the measurements indicate a throughput of 3494.05 kbps, packet loss of 0.03%, delay of 29.77 ms, and jitter of 0.02 ms. Each of these parameters scores a 4 on the index and falls into the "very good" category according to TIPHON standards. However, it is noteworthy that a significantly poor throughput value was obtained during QoS measurements using the ping scenario (default gateway IP and Youtube domain). This issue is partially attributed to the inadequate management of bandwidth, as the bandwidth management method was not implemented effectively in managing the WLAN network.
