Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya membaca permulaan sebagai keterampilan dasar yang harus dikuasai oleh peserta didik di kelas rendah. Tetapi fakta yang ditemukan di lapangan, masih terdapat peserta didik dengan keterampilan membaca permulaan yang tergolong rendah. Hal tersebut dikarenakan tidak digunakannya metode atau media yang inovatif dalam pembelajaran. Four Steps Steinberg berbantuan big book merupakan alternatif metode dan media pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan dan pengaruh dari metode Four Steps Steinberg berbantuan big book terhadap keterampilan membaca permulaan peserta didik kelas 1 SD. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Quasi Eksperimen dengan desain Non-Equivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Sampel penelitian yaitu peserta didik kelas 1 di UPTD SDN 8 Nagrikaler dengan jumlah 56 peserta didik yang terbagi menjadi 28 peserta didik pada kelompok eksperimen dan 28 peserta didik pada kelompok kontrol. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini, yaitu: 1) adanya peningkatan keterampilan membaca permulaan yang lebih baik sesudah menerapkan metode Four Steps Steinberg berbantuan big book dibandingkan peserta didik yang menggunakan metode Eja, 2) adanya pengaruh sebesar 82,3% dari metode Four Steps Steinberg berbantuan big book terhadap keterampilan membaca permulaan peserta didik. ----- This research is motivated by the importance of early reading as a basic skill that must be mastered by students in the early grades. However, the facts found in the field are that there still students with relatively low skills early reading skils. That is because innovative methods or media have are not used in learning. Four Steps Steinberg, assisted by a big book, is an alternative method and learning media to improve early reading skills. This study aims to determine the improvement and influence of the Four Steps Steinberg method, assisted by a big book on the early reading skills of first-grade elementary school students. The type of research used is Quasi Experiment with Non-Equivalent Control Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample was first grade students at UPTD SDN 8 Nagrikaler, with 56 students divided into 28 students in the experimental group and 28 in the control group. The results obtained from this study are: 1) there is an increase in better early reading skills after applying the Four Steps Steinberg method assisted by big books compared to students who use the Spelling method, 2) there is an effect of 82.3% of the Four Steps Steinberg method assisted by big books on students’ early reading skills.
