Abstract

Penelitian yang telah dilakukan berjudul “Profil Model Mental Siswa pada Materi Hidrolisis Garam Berdasarkan Strategi Evaluasi Model Predict-Observe-Explain (POE)”. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah 38 orang siswa kelas XII di salah satu SMA kota Bandung. Penelitian bertujuan untuk memperoleh profil model mental siswa pada materi hidrolisis garam. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan instrumen tes diagnostik model mental berdasarkan strategi evaluasi model POE. Siswa diminta untuk memprediksi, mengamati, dan menjelaskan fenomena hidrolisis garam dengan mempertautkan ketiga level representasi kimia yaitu makroskopik, sub-mikroskopik, dan simbolik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki model mental benar sebagian dalam proses memprediksi sifat asam-basa dari larutan garam (NH4)2SO4 dan (NH4)H2PO4 pada level sub-mikroskopik dan simbolik. Seluruh siswa memiliki model mental yang sesuai dengan model mental konsensus dan target dalam proses mengamati level makroskopik pada demonstrasi pembuktian sifat asam-basa dari larutan garam (NH4)2SO4 dan (NH4)H2PO4. Sebagian besar siswa memiliki model mental benar sebagian dalam proses menjelaskan fenomena hidrolisis garam (NH4)2SO4 dan (NH4)H2PO4. Siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menjelaskan level sub-mikroskopik dari fenomena hidrolisis garam sehingga tidak ada siswa yang memiliki model mental sesuai dengan model mental target. Dalam proses menjelaskan fenomena hidrolisis garam, siswa juga mengalami kesulitan untuk mempertautkan ketiga level representasi kimia. Kata Kunci: Model Mental, Representasi Kimia, Hidrolisis Garam, Predict, Observe, Explain Research has been conducted entitled “Profile Of Students’ Mental Models in Salt Hydrolysis Materials Based On Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) Model Evaluation Strategy”. Subjects in this study were 38 students of class XII at one high school in Bandung. The objective was to obtain a profile of students’ mental models in salt hydrolysis material. The method used in this research is descriptive method with the diagnostic test of mental model based on POE model evaluation strategy. Students were asked to predict, observe, and explain the phenomenon of salt hydrolysis by connecting the three levels of chemical representation such as macroscopic, sub-microscopic, and symbolic level. The results showed that most students in the process of predicting acid-base properties of (NH4)2SO4 and (NH4)H2PO4 salt solutions at sub-microscopic and symbolic levels have a partially correct of mental model. All students have an appropriate mental model like concensus and target mental model in the process of observing the macroscopic level at demonstration of acid-base properties of (NH4)2SO4 and (NH4)H2PO4 salt solutions. Most of the students have partially correct mental model in the process of explaining the phenomenon of (NH4)2SO4 and (NH4)H2PO4 salt hydrolysis. Students have difficulty in explaining the sub-microscopic level of salt hydrolysis phenomenon so that no student who has a mental model in accordance with the target mental model. In the process of explaining the phenomenon of salt hydrolysis, the students also have difficulties to make the connection between three levels of chemical representation.
