Abstract
During World War II, Japan committed many war crimes, for example the romusha in Indonesia and the massacre in Nanking, China. However, if we look at Japan today, many countries, especially in Asia, collaborate and are very dependent on Japan. Based on this, the author wants to examine the efforts of the Japanese prime ministers to restore Japan's image in the eyes of the world. This problem is studied using historical methods consisting of heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. From the results of this research, it was found that first, Japan's socio-political conditions before and during World War II were characterized by economic instability and social inequality which triggered military expansionist policies and political dictatorship. Second, after defeat in the Pacific War, Japan succeeded in restoring its international relations through various foreign policies implemented by its Prime Ministers. The Yoshida Doctrine, cooperation with the US, restoration of relations with the Soviet Union, as well as diplomatic efforts in Southeast Asia through ODA were Japan's efforts to restore its image. Third, Japanese foreign policy in this period had a significant impact on Asian countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and South Korea with large contributions in the form of economic assistance and industrial development. Japan has become a model for Asian countries that want to advance their economies and regional partnerships for regional economic development.
