"Studi ini menyelidiki penggambaran wanita dalam lagu-lagu pilihan dari tangga lagu top 100 di Billboard melalui tatanan signifikansinya yang meliputi denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos yang dikonstruksi dalam lirik. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga kerangka teori utama. Teori pertama adalah tatanan signifikasi dari Roland Barthes (1957) yang digunakan untuk menganalisis lagu-lagu yang dipilih. Teori kedua adalah basis kekuatan sosial dari French & Raven (1959). Teori ketiga adalah model resilience (ketangguhan) dari Benard (2004). Temuan ini mengungkapkan bahwa pada tingkat konotasi, perempuan digambarkan kuat dan tangguh. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa sebagai makhluk yang kuat, wanita memiliki jenis kekuatan tertentu. Sementara itu sebagai makhluk yang tangguh, wanita memiliki sifat ketangguhan tertentu. Dari perspektif stereotip gender, mitos ini menyiratkan bahwa perempuan memiliki dimensi agensi yang mendominasi di samping dimensi communal dan competence, yang menyiratkan bahwa stereotip pada perempuan tidak selalu tetap.\r\nKata kunci: tatanan signifikansi Barthes, penggambaran, kuat, tangguh, perempuan.\r\n\r\nThis study investigates women’s portrayal in selected Billboard’s Year-End Chart songs through its significations which include denotation, connotation, and myth constructed in the lyrics. Three major theoretical frameworks were used in this present study. The first theory is two orders of signification from Roland Barthes (1957) which was used to analyze the selected songs. The second theory is the bases of social power from French & Raven (1959). The third theory is resilience model from Benard (2004). The findings reveal that in connotation level women are portrayed as powerful and resilient. The findings indicate that as a powerful being, women possess certain types of powers. Meanwhile as a resilient being, women possess particular qualities of resilience. From gender stereotype perspective, the myth implies that women possess dominating agency dimension alongside communion and competence dimensions, which implies that stereotype on women is not likely to be rigid.\r\n\r\n\r\nKeywords: Barthes’ two orders of signification, portrayal, powerful, resilient, women."^^ .
