abstract: Penelitian dilatarbelakangi oleh kecenderungan self esteem negatif pada peserta didik, dimana mereka merasa rendah diri dan cenderung menarik diri dari lingkungan. Self esteem merupakan hasil penilaian individu terhadap dirinya baik positif maupun negatif. Dukungan sosial merupakan salah satu faktor yang dapat memengaruhi self esteem pada individu. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui hubungan antara dukungan sosial orang tua dengan self esteem remaja. Pendekatan penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelasXI SMA Negeri 6 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) kecenderungan self esteem peserta didik berada pada kategori positif (2) kecenderungan dukungan sosial orang tua berada pada kategori sedang (3) terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara dukungan sosial orang tua dengan self esteem remaja. Rekomendasi penelitian ditujukan kepada guru bimbingan dan konseling dan peneliti selanjutnya.

The research is taken based on the concern of the negative tendency of self-esteem within students, in which they have low self-esteem and tend to withdraw from the environment. Self-esteem is known as the result of individual’s assessment toward himself, whether negative or positive. Social support is one of factors that can influence individual’s self-esteem. This study aims to identify the relationship between parental support and adolescents’ self-esteem. The research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive research method. The populations in this study are XI grade learners of SMAN 6 Bandung in Academic Year 2015/2016. The result shows that (1) the tendency of learners’ self-esteem is in the positive category (2) the tendency of parental social support is in the middle category (3) there is a significant and positive relationship between parental social support and adolescents’ self- esteem. Research recommendations are addressed to the teacher adviser and counseling, and further research.
