N2  - Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears without an external sound source and has been reported to be increasingly prevalent among young adults due to lifestyle changes. Nursing students represent an important population for study because they face dual risks, including frequent earphone use for academic and recreational purposes, exposure to loud noise, high academic workload, and psychological stress during their education, in addition to their role as future healthcare professionals. This study aimed to analyze risk factors associated with tinnitus and to identify the most influential factor affecting tinnitus severity among nursing students at the University of Education Indonesia, Sumedang Campus. This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach involving 90 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Research instruments included the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Personal Listening Device Use Questionnaire (PLDUQ), questionnaires on loud noise exposure, history of ear disease, smoking habits and lifestyle, ear health education and awareness, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Data analysis was conducted using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with Spearman correlation tests, and multivariate analysis using ordinal logistic regression, as the outcome variable was categorical.The results showed a tinnitus prevalence of 66.7%, with most respondents experiencing mild to moderate tinnitus. All independent variables were significantly associated with tinnitus (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that a history of ear disease was the most influential factor affecting tinnitus severity (Estimate = 3.214; p < 0.001). This study concludes that tinnitus among nursing students is influenced by a combination of medical and behavioral factors, highlighting the need for improved ear health education and early screening as preventive strategies.
