This study examines the intricate interplay between modernization – specifically the role of technological change – and the preservation of cultural heritage in Benda Kerep Village, a tourist village located in Cirebon, West Java Province, Indonesia. It addresses two research questions: (1) How do cultural traditions and ancestral beliefs shape the acceptance and rejection of modernization in Benda Kerep? and (2) In what ways are technological change and cultural preservation negotiated through social structure and power relations in the context of religious tourism in Benda Kerep? The study employs a qualitative approach, encompassing 22 semi-structured, in-depth interviews, along with observations, and the collection of relevant historical documents. The findings indicate that Benda Kerep accepts modernization within clear boundaries while maintaining its traditional culture through ongoing cultural events involving the entire community. %D 2025 %A - Lintang Puspa Ningrum %A - Taufik Abdullah %O https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=view_citation&hl=en&user=udZlA44AAAAJ&citation_for_view=udZlA44AAAAJ:d1gkVwhDpl0C ID SINTA Dosen Pembimbing Taufik Abdullah: 6127535 Karya ini adalah tugas akhir setara dengan skripsi sesuai dengan SK Dekan Fakultas Pendidikan Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial Nomor: B-5885/UN40.A2/PK.03.03/2025 nomor SK karya setara skripsi) %T NEGOTIATING MODERNIZATION IN VILLAGE TOURISM AMIDST EFFORTS TO PRESERVE TRADITIONAL CULTURE %I Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia
