Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre-eksperimen dengan desain one group pretest-posttest, melibatkan siswa kelas di salah satu Madrasah Aliyah di Kabupaten Karawang. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas yang dipisahkan berdasarkan gender (laki-laki dan perempuan), yang keduanya mendapatkan perlakuan sama berupa penerapan PBL pada materi gangguan pernapasan. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes keterampilan berpikir kritis berdasarkan indikator Ennis, lembar observasi aktivitas siswa selama penerapan PBL, dan angket respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran. Analisis data meliputi statistik deskiptif, uji N-gain dan uji beda (Independent t-test) untuk membandingkan hasil antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata keterampilan berpikir kritis pada kelas laki-laki dan perempuan dari kategori rendah menjadi kategori cukup dengan capaian N-gain dalam kategori sedang (0,41) pada kelas laki-laki dan (0,43) pada kelas perempuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam keterampilan berpikir kritis antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan, baik sebelum maupun setelah penerapan PBL. Selain itu, aktivitas pembelajaran siswa berjalan dengan baik dan siswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penerapan PBL. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model Problem Based Learning mampu meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa serta memberikan pengaruh peningkatan yang relatif seimbang antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan. This study aims to examine the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills based on gender differences. The research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, involving students from a Madrasah Aliyah in Karawang Regency. Two classes separated by gender (male and female) participated in the study, both receiving the same treatment through the application of PBL on the topic of respiratory disorders. The research instruments consisted of a critical thinking test based on Ennis’ indicators, student activity observation sheets during PBL, and a questionnaire on students’ responses to the learning process. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-gain analysis, and an independent t-test to compare outcomes between male and female students. The findings revealed that both male and female students’ average critical thinking scores improved from a low to a fair category, with N-gain scores in the moderate category (0.41 for male students and 0.43 for female students). The results further indicated no significant differences in critical thinking skills between male and female students, either before or after the implementation of PBL. In addition, students’ learning activities proceeded effectively, and they expressed positive responses toward the use of PBL.
