Constipation is a common problem among critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), particularly those with encephalopathy who experience impaired consciousness and complete immobility. Non-pharmacological approaches such as abdominal massage offer a promising alternative to address this issue. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of abdominal massage in relieving constipation symptoms in an ICU patient with encephalopathy. A descriptive case study design was used, involving a 57-year-old female patient who was intubated and had not defecated for over three days. The intervention consisted of abdominal massage administered once daily for four consecutive days. The evaluation showed an increase in bowel sounds (from 3 to 11 times/minute), a reduction in abdominal circumference (from 92 cm to 89 cm), and a decrease in constipation score from 12 to 8. Although spontaneous defecation did not occur during the intervention, abdominal massage proved to be a safe and effective non-pharmacological intervention that can be applied by nurses, especially for patients with limited mobility and communication. date: 2025-05-26 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/1/S_NERS_2411397_Title.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/2/S_NERS_2411397_Chapter1.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/3/S_NERS_2411397_Chapter2.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/4/S_NERS_2411397_Chapter3.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/5/S_NERS_2411397_Chapter4.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/6/S_NERS_2411397_Chapter5.pdf format: text language: id identifier: http://repository.upi.edu/138663/7/S_NERS_2411397_Appendix.pdf identifier: Dina Noviani, - and Hikmat Pramajati, - (2025) PENERAPAN ABDOMINAL MASSAGE UNTUK MENGATASI KONSTIPASI PADA PASIEN ENSEFALOPATI DI RUANG ICU RSUD UMAR WIRAHADIKUSUMAH.
