Tujuan dari simulasi ini menentukan analisis struktur pita (band structure), density of states (DOS), dan dampak SOC terhadap sifat optik material. Simulasi dilakukan dengan membandingkan perhitungan scalar-relativistic (tanpa SOC) dan fully relativistic (dengan SOC) menggunakan pseudopotensial relativistik. Hasil yang didapatkan dalam simulasi ini menunjukan bahwa spin-orbit coupling (SOC) menyebabkan pemisahan energi sub-band pita valensi yang mencapai -0,4~1,4 eV yang berkontribusi dalam pergerseran puncak absorpsi dan modifikasi celah optik. Fenomena ini berkontribusi terhadap pergeseran puncak absorpsi optik dan perubahan celah optik material. Implikasi dari modifikasi ini sangat signifikan dalam meningkatkan sensitivitas dan efisiensi deteksi pada aplikasi sensor detektor termal berbasis respons optoelektronik film tipis emas. Dengan demikian, peran SOC perlu diperhitungkan dalam perancangan material sensor termal presisi tinggi. This study analyzes the effect of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the valence band sub-band discount of gold thin films using Density Functional Theory (DFT) through Quantum ESPRESSO and JDFTx software. The purpose of this analysis simulation is to determine the band structure (band structure), density of states (DOS), and the impact of SOC on the optical properties of the material. The simulation was carried out by calculating scalar-relativistic (without SOC) and fully relativistic (with SOC) calculations using relativistic pseudopotentials. The results obtained in this simulation indicate that spin-orbit coupling (SOC) causes a valence band sub-band energy frigival reaching -0.4~1.4 eV which contributes to the shift of the absorption peak and modification of the optical gap. This phenomenon contributes to the shift of the optical absorption peak and changes in the optical gap of the material. The implications of this modification are very significant in improving the sensitivity and detection efficiency in thermal detector sensor applications based on the optoelectronic response of gold thin films.
