This study aimed to examine forms of ethnomathematics embedded in the cultural practices of the Malind and Asmat (Bismam subgroup The Bismam subgroup is one of the twelve customary clan forums found in Asmat Regency). This research employed a qualitative methodology with an ethnographic methods. The study was conducted in two regions: Merauke Regency and Asmat Regency. Data were collected through field observations, interviews, and document analysis. Key informants included traditional leaders, cultural practitioners, and mathematics teachers. The findings revealed that the cultural artifacts incorporate principles of geometry, symmetry, isometry, frieze patterns, set theory, relations, and functions, reflecting a contextual understanding of mathematics in the everyday lives of indigenous communities. The study found that intuition and estimation played a significant role in the creation and use of these artifacts. Based on the study’s findings, it was conjectured that the Malind people's perception of mathematics was shaped by their intuitive and estimative abilities, the use of patterns and symbolism in cultural expressions, and classificatory system within their social structure (particularly clan-totem relationships). A similar conjecture for the Asmat people of the Bismam subgroup highlights the roles of intuition, estimation, and symbolic patterns in their cultural practices. Mathematics learning that integrated the cultural context of the Rumah Jew and the Kandala musical instrument through an ethnomathematical approach received positive responses from both students and teachers. Students demonstrated enthusiasm, pride, and active engagement as the material was connected to their own cultural background. Teachers noted that this approach enhanced concept comprehension and fostered a meaningful, contextual learning environment. date: 2025-08-11 date_type: published institution: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia department: KODEPRODI84002#Pendidikan Matematika_S3 thesis_type: doctoral thesis_name: phd official_url: https://repository.upi.edu/ related_url_url: https://perpustakaan.upi.edu related_url_type: org citation: Inggrid Marlissa, - and Turmudi, - and Dadang Juandi, - and Wahyudin, - (2025) STUDI ETNOGRAFI TENTANG ETNOMATEMATIKA SUKU MALIND DAN SUKU ASMAT RUMPUN BISMAM.
