Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi kesalahan yang terjadi, mendeskripsikan faktor penyebab kesalahan, serta memberikan upaya untuk mengatasi kesalahan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan mix method. Responden terdiri dari 55 mahasiswa dengan kemampuan tingkat dasar, pada Universitas Widyatama, dan Sekolah Tinggi Bahasa Asing Yapari. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes tertulis, kuesioner, dan wawancara. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat kesalahan dengan kategori error dan mistake. Kesalahan yang tertinggi, terdapat pada penggunaan jouken hyougen secara fungsi, diikuti dengan kesalahan secara struktur yaitu pada bentuk tara, bentuk ba, bentuk to, dan bentuk nara. Banyak pemelajar mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konteks yang tepat untuk setiap struktur dan fungsi kalimat, mengalami kebingungan dalam membedakan pengandaian tersebut, serta melakukan kesalahan dalam penerapan aturan tata bahasa. Faktor yang menyebabkan bentuk kesalahan (error) antara lain adalah interlingual, intralingual, overgeneralization, ignorance of rule restrictions, incomplete application of rules, false concept hypothesized, simplification, learning strategy, context of learning, development error, dan induced error. Sedangkan untuk faktor yang menyebabkan bentuk kekeliruan (mistake) adalah slip of the pen, dan communication strategies. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi kesalahan tersebut meliputi, menambah referensi dari sumber lainnya, meningkatkan variasi latihan sesuai dengan konsep yang berbeda, serta memotivasi pemelajar untuk meluangkan waktu di luar perkuliahan, dalam berlatih dan mempraktikkan bentuk pengandaian tersebut. This study aims to analyze errors in the use of jouken hyougen (conditional expressions) based on their structure and function among elementary-level learners of Japanese. The main focus of this research is to identify the types of errors that occur, describe the contributing factors, and propose measures to address these errors. A mixed-method approach was employed in this study. The respondents consisted of 55 elementary-level students from Widyatama University and Yapari School of Foreign Languages. Data were collected through written tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The results of the data analysis indicate that the errors can be categorized into errors and mistakes. The highest number of errors occurred in the functional use of jouken hyougen, followed by structural errors in the use of tara, ba, to, and nara forms. Many learners faced difficulties in understanding the appropriate contexts for each structure and function, experienced confusion in distinguishing between the conditional forms, and made mistakes in applying grammatical rules. Factors contributing to errors included interlingual and intralingual interference, overgeneralization, ignorance of rule restrictions, incomplete application of rules, false concept hypotheses, simplification, learning strategies, context of learning, developmental errors, and induced errors. Meanwhile, factors contributing to mistakes included slips of the pen and communication strategies.
