Namun, kenyataan di lapangan menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sekolah dasar masih tergolong rendah. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah penggunaan model pembelajaran yang kurang melibatkan siswa secara aktif dan belum berpusat pada siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS di kelas V sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi eksperimen dan desain non-equivalent control group design. Sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, dengan kelas eksperimen menggunakan model PBL dan kelas kontrol menggunakan model pembelajaran konvensional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model PBL berpengaruh secara signifikan sebesar 48,4% terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,61, sedangkan kelas kontrol memperoleh N-Gain sebesar 0,53. Dengan demikian, penerapan model Problem Based Learning terbukti lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dibandingkan model pembelajaran konvensional, karena mampu mendorong siswa untuk aktif dalam memecahkan masalah, berdiskusi, dan berpikir secara reflektif. ----- Critical thinking is one of the essential 21st century competencies that must be developed through the learning process so that students are able to analyze information, solve problems, and make logical decisions. However, field observations indicate that the critical thinking skills of elementary school students are still relatively low. One of the causes is the use of learning models that do not actively involve students and are not student-centered. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students' critical thinking skills in social studies learning in fifth-grade elementary school. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with the experimental class applying the PBL model and the control class using a conventional learning model. The results showed that the PBL model had a significant effect of 48.4% on improving students' critical thinking skills. The experimental class achieved an N-Gain score of 0.61, while the control class obtained an N-Gain score of 0.53.
