Retention-based Learning is a learning approach that focuses on optimizing the storage of information in students' long-term memory. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying Retention-based Learning on students' conceptual mastery and metacognitive abilities in the subject of the immune system in 11th grade high school. This approach is designed with stages of apperception, concept exploration, presentation and discussion, and confirmation, reinforcement, and retention. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 60 eleventh-grade science students at one public high school in Bandung City. The instruments used included a concept mastery test based on The New Taxonomy and a metacognitive questionnaire adapted from the Metacognition Self-Assessment Scale (MSAS) and open-ended statements. The pretest results showed that the average scores of the experimental class were lower than those of the control class, with a significant difference (p-value 0.012). This finding indicates a difference in initial understanding, so that improvements in concept mastery was analyzed using N-Gain. The research results showed that students in the experimental class had higher concept mastery improvement compared to the control class, as indicated by higher N-Gain scores. Additionally, students in the experimental class experienced improvements in metacognitive abilities in the aspects of planning, monitoring, and evaluating the, particularly in setting learning goals, monitoring the process, clarity of monitoring, and accuracy of monitoring. Retention-based Learning is effective in improving conceptual mastery and metacognitive abilities through structured repetition and active learning activities. Teachers may consider this approach in teaching complex material that requires deep understanding and learning awareness. date: 2025-06-18 date_type: published institution: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia department: KODEPRODI84205#Pendidikan Biologi_S1 thesis_type: other thesis_name: other official_url: https://repository.upi.edu/ related_url_url: https://perpustakaan.upi.edu/ related_url_type: org citation: Nesa Aeni Safitri, - and Adi Rahmat, - and Amprasto, - (2025) PENERAPAN RETENTION-BASED LEARNING TERHADAP PENGUASAAN KONSEP DAN KEMAMPUAN METAKOGNITIF SISWA SMA DALAM PEMBELAJARAN SISTEM IMUN.
