Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain posttest-only control group. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas dua kelas X di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Retention-Based Learning yang memiliki empat tahapan yaitu Apersepsi, Eksplorasi Konsep, Presentasi dan Diskusi Konsep serta Konfirmasi, Reinforcement, dan Retensi Konsep Baru, sedangkan kelas kontrol mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi tes pilihan ganda untuk mengukur penguasaan konsep dan angket kecemasan kognitif yang disusun berdasarkan adaptasi Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale (CTAS). Analisis data dilakukan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penguasaan konsep dan kecemasan kognitif antara kedua kelompok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok yang menggunakan pendekatan Retention-Based Learning dan kelompok kontrol yang menggunakan pendekatan konvensional, baik dalam penguasaan konsep maupun kecemasan kognitif. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa pendekatan Retention-Based Learning belum memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional dalam konteks pembelajaran biologi pada materi pencemaran udara. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing the Retention-Based Learning approach on high school students' conceptual understanding and cognitive anxiety in the context of air pollution material. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The subjects consisted of two Grade X classes from a senior high school in Bandung, selected using purposive sampling. The experimental group received instruction using the Retention-Based Learning approach which has four stages, namely Apperception, Concept Exploration, Concept Presentation and Discussion and Confirmation, Reinforcement, and Retention of New Concepts, while the control group was taught using a conventional approach. The instruments used included a multiple-choice test to assess conceptual understanding and a cognitive anxiety questionnaire adapted from the Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale (CTAS). Data analysis was conducted to determine differences in conceptual understanding and cognitive anxiety between the two groups. The results indicated no significant differences between the experimental and control groups in either conceptual understanding or cognitive anxiety.
