abstract: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kurang efektifnya sistem manual. Pencatatan surat yang masih dilakukan hanya mencatanya saja ke dalam buku agenda dan lembar disposisi untuk arsip surat hanya disimpan ke dalam map dan lemari arsip tidak adanya penyimpanan untuk jenis surat elektronik, sehingga mengakibatkan tercecernya surat elektronik yang menimbulkan ketidaklengkapan arsip surat. Ketidaklengkapan arsip surat ini berdampak pada hilangnya arsip terutama untuk jenis surat elektronik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk merancang sistem pencatatan surat berbasis Microsoft Access dan mengetahui kelayakan sistem. 
Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode R&D (Research and Development) dengan model perancangan ADDIE. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar expert judgement untuk validasi ahli sistem basis data dan lembar judgemet untuk respon dari pihak pengguna untuk mengetahui kelayakan dari sistem basis data pencatatan surat berbasis Microsoft Access. Sistem ini juga akan dilakukan uji dengan Black Box Testing untuk mengetahui spesifikasi fungsional sistem. 
Berdasarkan hasil dari validasi ahli basis data mendapatkan hasil 84% yang berarti sistem tersebut sangat layak digunakan untuk penelitian. Hasil dari respon pengguna terkait kelayakan sistem mendapatkan 91% yang berarti sistem sudah sangat layak untuk digunakan. Hasil Black Box Testing menyatakan bahwa 100% sistem berjalan sesuai dengan yang harapkan
This research is motivated by the inefficiency of the manual system. The recording of letters is still done manually by noting them in an agenda book, and disposition sheets for letter archives are only stored in folders and filing cabinets. There is no storage system for electronic letters, leading to the scattering of electronic letters and incomplete letter archives. This incompleteness impacts the loss of archives, especially for electronic letters. The purpose of this research is to design a letter recording system based on Microsoft Access and to determine the feasibility of the system.
This research methode uses the R&D method witd the ADDIE design model. The data collection technique uses expert judgment sheets for the validation of database system experts and judgment sheets for responses from users to determine the feasibility of the Microsoft Access-based letter recording database system. This system will also undergo Black Box Testing to determine the system's functional specifications.
Based on the validation results from database experts, the system received a score of 84%, indicating that it is very feasible for use in research. The user response regarding the system's feasibility received a score of 91%, indicating that the system is very suitable for use. The results of Black Box Testing showed that the system operates 100% as expected.
