Dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis, siswa dapat mengutarakan ide, menafsirkan, menginterpretasikan antara ide dengan ide-ide yang lain dalam memecahkan masalah. Namun pada kenyataannya banyak siswa yang memberikan respon kurang baik terhadap pembelajaran matematika sehingga siswa mengalami permasalahan dan mengakibatkan rendahnya kemampuan komunikasi matematisnya. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini untuk: (1) menentukan apakah kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh model Problem-Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada model pembelajaran konvensional; (2) menelaah respon siswa terhadap model Proble-Based Learning. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalent control group. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII di salah satu SMP Swasta di Bandung dengan sampel sebanyak dua kelas yang sipilih secara acak. Salah satu kelas sebagai kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan pembelajaran dengan model Problem-Based Learning dan kelas lain sebagai kelas kontrol yang menggunakan pembelajaran dengan model konvensional. Adapun data penelitian ini diperoleh dari tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan model Problem-Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional dan respon siswa terhadap pembelajaran matematika degan model Proble-Based Learning menunjukkan hasil yang positif. Kata kunci: Kemampuan Komunikasi Matematis, Problem-Based Laerning   Mathematical communication skills are one of the abilities that every student must have. With mathematical communication skills, students can express ideas, interpret ideas, and solve problems. However, in reality, many students respond poorly to mathematics learning, so they experience problems, which results in low mathematical communication skills. The aims of this research are to: (1) determine whether the mathematical communication skills of students who receive the problem-based learning model are higher than conventional learning models; and (2) examine student responses to the problem-based learning model. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were class VIII students at a private junior high school in Bandung, with a sample of two classes chosen randomly. One class is an experimental class that uses learning with the problem-based learning model, and the other class is a control class that uses learning with a conventional model. The data for this research was obtained from a mathematical communication ability test.
