Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peranan metode reward dan punishment dalam meningkatkan minat belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS. Metode reward dan punishment merupakan metode pembelajaran inovatif berupa pemberian hadiah dan hukuman. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) strategi metode reward dan punishment dalam meningkatkan minat belajar siswa dilakukan dengan merancang bentuk reward dan punishment yang tepat, memberikan reward atau punishment ketika siswa menunjukkan perilaku atau pencapaian tertentu, dan melakukan evaluasi secara rutin terkait dampak dan keberhasilan penerapan metode reward dan punishment dalam pembelajaran IPS di kelas VIII-J SMP Negeri 17 Bandung, (2) hambatan penerapan metode reward dan punishment dalam pembelajaran IPS adalah kesulitan dalam menentukan bentuk reward dan punishment yang tepat, upaya yang dilakukan yaitu melakukan diskusi dengan pihak terkait dan melakukan pendekatan yang lebih hati-hati serta pemahaman yang mendalam terhadap siswa, (3) implikasi metode reward dan punishment dalam meningkatkan minat belajar siswa pada pembelajaran IPS ditunjukkan dengan meningkatnya partisipasi aktif dan hasil belajar siswa, memiliki rasa tanggung jawab terhadap tugas yang diberikan, meningkatkan motivasi belajar, dan meningkatkan sikap disiplin siswa. Secara keseluruhan metode reward dan punishment dalam pembelajaran IPS sudah dilaksanakan dengan baik oleh guru dan mampu meningkatkan minat belajar siswa kelas VIII-J SMP Negeri 17 Bandung. This study aims to analyze the role of reward and punishment methods in increasing students' interest in social studies subjects. The reward and punishment method is an innovative learning method in the form of giving rewards and punishments. This study used a type of descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The results of this study are (1) the strategy of reward and punishment methods in increasing student interest in learning is carried out by designing the right form of reward and punishment, providing rewards or punishments when students show certain behaviors or achievements, and conducting regular evaluations related to the impact and success of the application of reward and punishment methods In social studies learning in class VIII-J SMP Negeri 17 Bandung, (2) obstacles to the application of reward and punishment methods in social studies learning are difficulties in determining the right form of reward and punishment, efforts made are to discuss with related parties and take a more careful approach and deep understanding of students, (3) the implications of reward and punishment methods in increasing student interest in social studies learning is shown by increasing active participation and student learning outcomes, having a sense of responsibility for the tasks given, increasing learning motivation, and increasing student discipline attitudes. Overall, the reward and punishment methods in social studies learning have been implemented well by teachers and have succeeded in increasing the interest in learning of grade VIII-J students of SMP Negeri 17 Bandung.
