%X This study aims to provide an overview of competent and ethical leadership in building excellent higher education. The research method used in this study is mixed methods with a convergent parallel mixed methods approach. The number of samples used was 428 people consisting of students and lecturers, as well as six deans and heads of study programs. In this study, it was found that excellent higher education had an average score in the very high category for each dimension. In the competent leadership dimension, all dimensions are in the very high category. Likewise with ethical leadership where all dimensions are in the very high category. Broadly speaking, this study found that there is an influence of competent and ethical leadership on the development of excellent higher education, both partially and simultaneously, with a significance value of less than 0.05. This study provides recommendations to higher education leaders to explore competent and ethical leadership models in order to build excellent higher education.
