TY - THES PB - Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia N2 - This study was aimed at investigating the use of Snakes and Ladders game in teaching English vocabulary to young learners. A quasi experimental design was employed with two classes of the fifth graders at one school in Cimahi. The sample was selected purposively. Taking a null hypothesis, the data were obtained through a pre-test, a post-test and questionnaires. The findings of the study suggest that Snakes and Ladders game may help the students improve their vocabulary mastery. It was indicated by their score improvement. The calculation of t-test shows that the experimental group got higher score (M = 33,00), than the control group score (M = 30,05). In other words, the tobt (2.534) is higher than tcrit (2.000), meaning that the null hypothesis is rejected. It can be inferred that there is a difference between experimental and control groups. Moreover, the effect size computation shows that there is a great effect of Snakes and Ladders game with r value = 0.999. In other words, having been treated Snakes and Ladders game, students was likely to have an improvement on their vocabulary mastery. Based on findings, Snakes and Ladders game promote students? interest and motivation in learning English vocabulary. The students got actively involved in the teaching and learning process. The game made the teaching and learning process more fun. This atmosphere help the students learn and retain new words faster and better.
